I have 4 accounts showing 0 balance that are currently on my CR. I wonder (for knowledge's sake) if I dispute them and they are taken off, will this affect my score in any way? Could it be damaging as these are older accounts and help with the length of my credit history or does that "rule" not apply when an account is closed? Its semi unsettling to see "7 potentially negative items on your report" when I know four of those are paid off and the remaining three are my SL waiting for consolidation. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
Collection accounts are major derogatives so with one or several of them off your report is undoubtedly a big plus! Also, a paid collection still hurts your score just as an unpaid collection does.
Thanks for the reply. Can I dispute them and have them taken off even though I know they were mine?

You should only dispute items that you truly believe are inaccurate.

As for the effect of removing accounts on average age of accts, if you are referring to a collection, no.
Collections are not actually "accounts" of yours, they are reporting "accounts" between the debt collector and the CRAs solely for the purpose of reporting their collection activity.
They dont figure into age of accounts calcualtions in any manner. Their date opened is simply the date they received their collection authority.
All OC accounts, regardless of open or closed, are included in your AAoA calculation, so deletion of an OC account would affect AAoA.
If it were me, I would try to GW the CA to remove the collections ~ Collections are definately hurting your FICO score.....
I had two collections that I PFD'd, they were old (2007). I saw a 4 point jump in my credit score. They were small amounts so I don't regret paying them, every point helps.
