Hmmm, I didn't know you could have a stronger 850 than a regular 850?
Stronger just means it would take more to drop the 850 below 850 than a weaker 850.
For example, my 850 on TU was with 1 scoreable inquiry present. My score 2 days later once the inquiry became unscoreable was of course still 850, but it's a "stronger" 850 now, because I know I can take a HP on TU and not have my score drop below 850. That wouldn't have been the case if I had taken a HP on TU when I still had the 1 scoreable inquiry present. I also don't have an almost paid off non-mortgage installment loan present, something that caused me to lose 5 points on average from my FICO 08 scores in March. If I had one of those in place, I'd be adding ~5 points of buffer to the 850, thus making it a stronger 850. These are just a couple of examples.
Congrats!
I'm looking forward to my AZEO card in 2 weeks going from a reported 28% utilization to single-digit utilization, as my EQ score at 845 is in striking distance of 850. I'm not sure if the utilization change will matter on EQ FICO 08, but if so it could make up the points I'm missing.

BBS...this would be true if 1 scorable inquiry that is 11 months prior was equal to a new inquiry. It is my understanding that this is not the case. If my understanding is correct an inquiry that causes a 5 point ding to your score when less than a month prior might only have a 2 point negative affect in 11 months. In other words an inquiry has no affect on score after 12 months, but the amount of affect on a score is decreasing as it ages, so a new inquiry could very well drop the score under 850.

Sarge, I understand the impact of inquiries to be the opposite of what you described above, meaning that they don't lose impact over time. If you lose X points from taking on an inquiry, you gain X points when it reaches 1 year of age. That's of course assuming your profile hasn't changed significantly (clean vs dirty for example) over the course of that year.
If others would like to chime in on the subject that would be great. I have never heard of some inquiry points coming back over the course of the year though rather than being taken/given back all at once.

I certainly have no data to argue the point, so you may be right...if anyone knows for sure, it would probably be Thomas_Thumb. He seems to have charts and graphs on everything...he is a credit score scholar!
I think BBS is trying to lure me out to share my data point so I will oblige. After accumulating 5 inquiries on my Experian report last year between April and June, my score settled on 781 in August after all accounts reported and remain there for 8 months until end of March this year when the inquiries start to hit one year. So far I have received a scoring bump for each of the 4 inquires on exactly the same day they hit one year, 3 points, 7 points, 7 points and 3 points respectively. The score has been sitting at 801 since the last inquiry birthday of April 22nd and I expect another bump when the 5th inquiry comes off on June 4th.
My DP does seem to support the theory that you get it all back in one shot since there were no scoring changes for 8 months prior.
Thanks for weighing in with that data, OM, although I know you've provided it in other threads recently. I do believe that all in one shot is the case with inquiries. Hopefully TT will stop in and contribute with his data points on the subject.
Impact of an HP inquiry lasts 12 months - to the day from date of inquiry for Fico models. Most poster data shows no reduction in impact of the inquiry until it reaches 12 months. However, it appeared I saw a partial reduction in impact of a lone inquiry on EQ Bankcard enhancded Fico 8 at 90 days. Not able to go back and test for repeatability.
It is interesting an above poster mentions 7|3|3|7 for point gains when inquiries dropped off. That's hard to explain unless some HPs had a new account tied to them while others are pure play HP only. I suppose there could be differences in assigned impact based on binning but, that's much harder to rationalize.
