I don't know, that type of stuff doesn't bother me.  AA, 9 times out of 10, is warranted.  Sure, 1 time out of 10 we all are taken back by the circumstances, but far often than not it's perfectly understandable why a creditor takes AA.  Capital One isn't of importance to me.  Relative to the Big Four, they are a small fish in a big pond.  There have been a few instances of Chase taking AA recently but I've heard very little regarding the other big banks.  And, again, 9 times out of 10 with Chase the AA is justifiable and for every person that references AA with them you have 90-100 that are perfectly happy and have had no issue.  I understand the "better safe than sorry" mentality, but I don't necessarily think there's any greater cause for concern lately, to be honest.

To be honest BBS...with 16 cards and all but the one I let my sister use and pay the bill on showing zero balance almost always...I really am  fairly insulated to any AA by credit cards anyway. If half of them were to close tommorrow, my utilization would go from 2% to 4% which would not affect my scores. I actually do not lose sleep worrying about AA being taken. I have quite intentionally built my credit in such a way as to make the actions of my creditors irrelevant to my credit scores. It would take illegally reporting me delinquent to cause any real harm. My high overall CLI's and always PIF every account makes what the creditors do irrelevant to my profile, and that is how I want to keep it.

A big truism! Take care of credit and the issuers of credit tthey take care of you. i follow  (or lead?) in  your footsteps and thoughts. I have never had problems obtaining credit, a credit card, or a loan. I have been seriously asked this question before, " Are you having financial difficulties or do you have a  situation of any kind that would cause you to run up a large balance for any reason of we lend you this money or increase your limits? I always replied no." My father taught me at a very young age that when you need credit peope don't want to lend to you.. When you don't need it they throw the money at you  because they know that you CAN and are able to repay it. Here is a true story, one of the greatest memories in my life. A serious and horrible divorce. Because of DTI with child support, rent, and living expenses I could not get an automobile loan even though I had cash to pay for a brand new automobile. One of my long time bankers said "You have ALWAYS PAID every loan with this institution in ADVANCE. I will loan you 100% of the purchase price, sales taxes, license, and one year of insurance.I WAS IMMENSLY humbled and said THANK YOU. I replied that I would place 30% cash down and accept his offer. I paid the loan off six months early. On my final payment I walked into his office and handed my loan officer the check.I thanked him again, His response "come see me again".The motto of banking is the same in life, treat people as they should be and the rest takes care of itself.

Sarge, I agree with everything you're saying but I'm a little confused as to your stance regarding AA, specifically with respect to your account.  On the previous page you suggested that AA is increasing lately and that you don't want to poke the bear and want to hide in the garden, which to me meant that you in some way feared AA.  In your most recent post your tone is more of you don't believe it would really happen to you and that even if it did, it wouldn't matter.  I'm believe all of the above is true, I just felt from reading your posts that your feelings on AA were sort of inconsistent.  I'm sure I just misinterpreted what you wrote, though.

BBS...even though I have no reason to fear AA if it happens, I still see no reason to invite such actions if it appears that evidence indicates they may be inclined to hit people with my profile with AA's. Truth be told, my finances are such that closing all my cards would not make any difference in my lifestyle...heck closing all cards and calling in all my loans would only cost me extra taxes. All this credit use and score chasing is just really entertainment to me to be truthful. I have no children, no wife, and more assets than my very poor health will ever allow me to enjoy spending enough of it to ever get in any financial difficulties. My major health issues stem from a permenantly damaged spinal cord, yet thankfully I can still walk with a bad limp. All the money in the World can not fix a damaged spinal cord. The physical problems caused by such makes any travel uncomfortable and painful, so I stay at home 99% of the time, where I am always close to a rest room, but I have lots of money, and it actually means very little to me anymore. I guess I really do this because it is one of the few things I still can do to pass the time.

I'm sorry to hear about the health issues.  I get where you're coming from.  No wife and no kids sounds absolutely fantastic to me.  Who needs either of those when you've got your family right here in this forum!  Smiley Happy

My TU scores are always the lowest - and are your scores the version 8 / 9 or the versions the banks use for mortgages (which for me are 20-30 points lower) grrrr

@Anonymous...Considering this thread is over 137 pages, with hundreds of posters, you would need to identify whom you are asking that question.

Funny that I agree with both of you, Sarge and BBS.  After two divorces (#1 - a wife/child beater, 4 yrs.; #2 - an alcoholic, 21 yrs. -- I can sure pick them), grown and successful children, and refusing any alimony, I am grateful that I can take care of myself without any worries.  Although I may have 'suitors' -- not in my house, thank you.  So, as you know, it can work both ways.  Although, lucky are the folks who pick a compatible partner.

I do, however, appreciate myFico 'family'.Smiley Wink

Don't feel alone on the sure can pick them sentiment. After my divorce, I decided marriage was no longer for me...too painful. My friends at work would say "You can't judge women by your wife, they are not all like that, you just got a bad one" I would respond that I no longer trust my judgement with women, because she looked me in the eye and said she loved me, and I believed her completely. I kind of like being able to make decisions with money and such without having to consider anyone else in the decision. There is a lot of freedom comes with being single.

I can agree with that 100% Sarge.  I'm on the same exact page with you on that topic.  I have zero desire to allow myself the vulnerability that comes with being in a relationship again.  Evidently I have not been able to "pick them" very well myself over the years.
