Yay, I can add myself to the list!  I have a 777 and a 798 (TU) pulled yesterday.  Not bad for a 26 year old with a new mortgage, 2 USAA cards, 1 store card and student loans!  If only I knew the third one I could throw a full party...alas all I can do is pretend they are all over 760 =)

Re: Our Forums' FICO High Achievers: Who has at least one FICO Score of 760 or above?

Hi.  I'm new here and can't figure out why my score isn't higher.  My Equipfax score is 807. But my use of new credit is only Good. I really don't have any new credit.  In fact. I want to close some accounts that I never use.  Am I being selfish?  Should I just be happy at 807?  Does anyone know if closed unused accounts will help me or hurt me?

Thanks.

Hello...and welcome to the forums.

I don't know why it says only "Good" for new credit. How new is your newest account?

Closing unused accounts doesn't hurt you unless you have balances on your credit card statements. Part of your FICO score is based on how much of your available credit you use. So, if someone has balances, then by closing cards they are lowering the amount of their available credit and their score could go down.

If you don't have balances on your credit cards, closing accounts shouldn't matter. Also, the history of a closed account stays on your credit reports for about 10 years, so those accounts still figure into your history and your average of accounts. You might not want to close your oldest account.
