This shouldn't be surprising. Regardless of income, if you can live within your means then your score will reflect that.
Of course, it's harder to do so in some areas than in others.

Idk, that graph indicates that income is strongly correlated with achieving top FICO scores. Earning >100K must put you into the 10th percentile, maybe even 5th, (edit: it's actually 15th percentile nationwide) yet accounts for nearly one third of 850 scores. The bottom half of the income distribution don't even have representation for 20% of that pie. That would be the tiniest of fractions in that group getting to 850. Income is not a direct input in the model, but the connection is clear.
Had to see what the highest scores around are. This was back in Oct after some consolidating but here's my best! Hit 847
