Hi Forum, I am new to this but I have been reading it off and on for some time. I currently have scores according to my FICO at EQ 717, TR 716, EX 697 and my utilization is at 16%. Amex reported me for late payments though I've never made any; I had an agreement to pay down an emergency medical bill with Amex and they torpedoed my scores. I need some suggestions on getting to the 760+ club; would anyone care to share?

Keep good willing Amex to remove lates, may take a year or so.  Search the rebuilding forum for help.  You can't reach 760 with those kind of baddies on your report.

With those scores no way I would have touched my credit to open new cards. I took a hard inquiry this month and had putting more than 10% on 2 cards it cost me 33 points. Made me sick as I was 7 points away from 760 on equifax true FICO and it's the hardest to move. I can't wait to get that CC balance off. Probally did 6 to 8 months damage before I can get it back to 760. My experian and Trans was both already over 770. It's hard to reach 800. I've done everything to reach it and done everything right but I just can't get there. 7 years perfect payment history. 5 CC and 2 installment loans. I don't know what else to do.

paramed, you were above 760 15 months ago? Which cards, CL, and utilization do you have?

What do you consider "true FICO" to be? Source?

847! Woot! I went through a bad divorce 12 years ago. My FICO was in the 500s after that. It took a lot of rebuilding, but there it is. The best FICO I've ever had.

Wow 847 that's amazing. I was doing great at 775 but got a hit this past month with banker pulling my credit then turning me down for a loan and me having to keep it on 2 cc out of 5 I have. Kicked me down to 740 worse being 724 equifax. I'll rebuild it and get that utilization back under 3 % soon. I can't wait to hit 820 or above that's going to be incredible. Like you 7 years ago I was at 553 after years of neglecting it but now living for every Fico point I can earn. I have worked my behind off on my credit for 8 years and perfect payment history along with all I have learned here. I need now to concentrate on more premium CC. My FICO says that's one thing that hurts me. I have the quicksilver and US AIR world with 9500 CL but feel I need Discover or chase or American Express. Any advise I always appreciate it. I still have one starter or rebuild card but had it so long no way I want to close it. While my scores are down I need to go ahead and take a hit and get Chase Freedom or Discover or BAC reward card.
Congratulations !!

Congrats, Jazzman, Infoone, Paramed - great scores after constructive work.  Stay the course.

Getting soft pulls rather than hard pulls in trying for loans will help.  Back in the day, when I was searching for a home loan, I didn't realize all that searching for the best plan would reflect poorly on credit scores.  "Too soon old too late smart."   Experience is a great teacher.

Re: Our Forums' FICO High Achievers: Who has at least one FICO Score of 760 or above?

Hello,  first post since joining My Fico a few months ago.

I've been in the rebuild stage for a few years and hit 766 TU,  765 EQ,  760 EX.  last month.  This is from a low of around 660 to 680 during the great recession.  I was hit with alternative mininum tax and unemployment at the same time.  After getting tax return filed I made payment arrangments with Fed and state.  As soon as I started making the payments state put a tax lein on my house.  They claim that's what they do even if payments are being made.  That was December of 11.  I immediately pulled money from 401K to pay it off but the damage was done.  That will probably keep me out of the 800 club for a while yet.

This week I finally reached 0% credit utilization and 0 bank card debt.  To my amazement when the FICO notification arrived for paying off the last card it had a 18 point drop with it (Equifax).  When the 0 bank card debt notice arrived it also had a 12 point drop (Trans union).  Any ideas whats up with that?

All revolvers at 0 scores as if you are using 30%, you have to let a small balance report on one card, should be less than 9% of that cards individual CL.

Thanks for the quick reply.  But I don't understand the 0=30% math.  Any insight on that would be much appreciated.
