Pay early counts on CC?

I recently made a large purchase on my card which is putting it at 85% utilization.

I'd like to pay it early to insure it does not get reported at that level, at the same time I'd like to get the 'bonus' of having made a charge and paid it down with the cc itself.

If I send a payment in BEFORE my statement, will they then STILL calculate another payment due, or will that payment count as this months payment regardless?

Thanks!

Re: Pay early counts on CC?

If I pay most of my balance before the reprting date, they report the balance and I have tp pay it off.

If I pay all of the balance it just reports as zero balance
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Re: Pay early counts on CC?

When I charge large payments I always pay a chunk of it off before the statement date.  It will only reflect the amount due after the payment and it will be due at the same time your payment is usually due.

So make sure you have the $$ to pay by your normal statement due date too.

Re: Pay early counts on CC?

This can be tricky. But yes. If you pay too early your payment can apply to the previous cycle. So expect that you still might have to make a second minimum payment if the balance is not paid in full. I choose to pay in full. As long as you do not have any balance you may receive a bill, but there would be nothing to pay. Just to be save I over pay a little bit and I still check the statements online just to be sure around the due date... If you want to pay down early to prevent a large balance from showing you should make your pay down payment before the closing date for that cycle.
