Re: Payments are a bad thing?

My scores go up and down every month it seems. Even every week at times.. I wouldn't worry about 3 points.. It all works itself out..

Inquiries cost you FICO points up to 12 months, but there's a limit to how many inquiries count against you.  I'm not sure of the equation actually, I would guess that 1 inquiry hurts the most, 2-4 hurts a little less, and probably 5+ hurts even less but I can't verify that where I'm at.

From my personal experience, 1-2 inquiries are lumped into the same bucket, as are 3-4 inquiries.  What I mean, basically, is that 1 and 3 are thresholds.  So if one possesses 1 inquiry on a certain bureau and takes another inquiry to bring it to a total of 2 on that bureau, there should be no score drop.  Conversely, if this person had 2 inquiries already on a certain bureau but took a 3rd, they'd see a score drop... and if they took 2 more inquiries bringing it to 4, the score drop would be the same as if they just took 1, as 4 is not a new threshold.

That's what I've found on my profile, anyway.  And for the record, I'm talking scoreable inquiries... that is, those that are less than 1 year old.

I'll be able to test my data on this next week, as I have 1-2 scoreable inquiries dropping off of all bureaus.  Depending on the bureau, I may see a slight increase, or I may see nothing at all if a threshold is not crossed.
