Please help me understand

Recently asked for a credit increase with Orchard Bank. Unfortunately, I was declined  because of a recent past due payment, which I am disputing because I haven't made a late payment since obtaining the card. I received the letter in the mail today and it shows my credit score , which was obtained on Aug.3. There is a big difference in the score that Equifax is showing on the letter and what my score is showing here on Myfico. If my score is that high, why wasn't I alerted by Scorewatch? The last alert I received was on Aug.14 (an inquiry from BoA.) I never received an alert stating my score had gone up from 612 to 667. I was under the impression that the scores here were 100% valid. Please help me figure this out lol

The scores here are valid.

 

The score that Orchard bank uses may or may not be the same one.

 

Look at the letter.  Does it SAY that they used a FICO score?

Fico 8 10/01/25: EX 795, EQ 800, TU 793.
Fico 9: EX 812 04/15/25, EQ 804 04/08/25, TU 792 02/15/25.

Zero percent financing is where the devil lives...

It says......"the following credit score was used as part of the decision-making process. The credit score is a number that reflects the information in your credit report. This credit score can change, depending on how the information in your credit report changes

 

Your score: 667

The score reanges from a low of 0 to a high of 949

Date the score was obtained: August 3, 2012

 

 

The report was pulled from Equifax Credit Information Services, Inc

Goal Score: 700

Yes, it is quite possible, and most likely probable, that the "score" provided to the creditor was not a FICO score.  However, they were not even required to identify a score in their denial letter, only the name of the CRA they pulled your CR from.

 

The FCRA considers any denial of a request for new or additional credit as an "adverse action" under FCRA 615(a).

What that means to the consumer:

1. the consumer can send a copy of the denial letter to the CRA that was identified in their denial (EQ) within 60 days, and receive a free copy of their credit report, thus enabling identification of items that might be affecting their score. 

2. the creditor is not required under section 615(a) to provide any credit score as the basis for a denial, so you dont get an explantion of how it affected the score they referenced; the consumer must figure that out.  Their reference to use of the credit report, and not the score, is what gives right to a free copy of your CR.

0-949 isn't a fico score range?  No idea what score they used.  Probably something internal.  Might want to check you equifax for lates though.
