Points after collection reports satisfied?

There was a disagreement over this amount and my friend "refused to pay" and got hit with a collection on his CR.

Collection is 4 years old.
Bal is $25.

So what will happen to his score if he pays the CA $25 and they change the debt to $0/satisfied? I doubt the $25 will impact his UTL %. They have made it clear - no PFD. Will his score benefit from paying it he asked me? I didn't know this answer. Thanks.

Re: Points after collection reports satisfied?

Impact will be zero or worse. Happened to me. If you look at MyFico reports it even says the initial impact is the reporting of the debt and not much changes after that (outside of aging). As I understand it, often what happens is you take an older unpaid collection and turn it into a recent paid one, which is even worse (point wise).

If you don't get it off though, paying won't increase your score, might even hurt it, so if you *really* don't feel it is your debt it is best to dispute it and get it removed.
