Rate shopping

Ok so I recently bought a car, its an Exotic so needless to say alot of Lenders did not want to play ball, this lead to many MANY MANY MANY inquires, now I'm told that when shopping around for a specific loan that only 1 inquiry should "count" HOWEVER this "shopping" dropped my score from 776 to 693 and the new loan did not even hit the report yet.. so my question is since clearly the rate shopping rule did NOT apply here, how can I force it too? can I do a dispute? can I call them?

Thanks

Re: Rate shopping

If the inquiries were coded correctly, and they happened within a certain timeframe, they should only count as 1 inquiry. How long were you shopping for?

Re: Rate shopping

Although my 3 INQ's were within 14 days during the rate shopping period for an auto loan, USBank reported as Automotive for business type for EQ & TU wheras EX reported Non specific.  Actually it was not reduced to 1 out of 3 with any bureau as reported on my credit report.  Not sure if lenders see it differently.

Re: Rate shopping

I think you hit the nail on the head!!!! I think thats what happened, non specific inq so they are not being lumped together... and it basically DESTROYED me, once the vehicle hits as new credit I'll be in "Co signer" land

Re: Rate shopping

You most likely will not see much of a drop from the loan reporting.

I would recommend pulling your ACR report and seeing how the inquiries are coded and then going to each individual lender and requesting them to recode it properly. Otherwise you will not have de-duplication occur and your score suffers as you see.
