Renting a house

My mother-in-law is finally going to renovate her condo in hopes of selling it. Me and my

wife found a house to rent, we filled out the rental applications and sent them to the realtor

today.

I know they're going to pull my credit, my question is will it be a hard pull or a soft one? Right

now my score is 680. If its a hard pull, I assume it'll drop like a bad habit correct?

Sorry for my ignorance, but this is a first for me.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Renting a house

soylentorange20, a single inquiry won't hurt you. If there's any drop at all, it'll only be a few points, which you'll get back fairly quickly. I think you're OK here...

Re: Renting a house

Like the PP stated, inquiries are only a small part of your score, any damage to your score will be minimal, and inquiries only affect your score for one year. Just a word of advice, when renting a home, you need to due your due diligence to make sure the home you're renting isn't in danger of foreclosure, property management companies aren't required to give out that information in most states.

Re: Renting a house

We got the house, move in date is May 1. The house is owned by a Dr who lives in Carlsbad and she's looking

for a responsible couple. She said we're the 3rd renters in a year and a half. Nice house on a corner lot with

a boatload of trees and ceiling fans in every room (hopefully that'll make for a low powerbill come summertime).

Wife went to meet with the owner at the realty office and we were both quite suprised by our scores, hers was

695 (not bad for having a BK a few years ago) and mine was 701 (not bad for somebody who never used to pay

bills on time). We have to meet with the owner one last time on Sunday and then its ours.....for a year.
