Second, close any retail store charge accounts....This is what someone gave as advice for a person with a credit score of 653. If both cards I have have credit lines of $200 but they have zero balances, is it better to keep them open or close them?

you'll probably get a lot of posts that all say the same thing. DONT CLOSE THEM!
The retail cards add to your credit mix score, plus open accounts in good standing add to your average age of accounts, which increases your score too.
