Hi there.

May I ask where you got your other score and which one it is? Transunion or Equifax? And which of the two scores did you get from myFICO?

From a BK years ago to:
EX - 3/11 pulled by lender- 835, EQ - 2/11-816, TU - 2/11-782

Re: Score drastically different on a different site...

Hello Marine..

My husband and I are both Marine Vets too.  He was with 2/8 on Lejeune, a 0331.  I was an 1141 with MWSS 272.

I got the initial scores from USAA, and then went to Transunion's site directly which is saying a 556, here it is saying a 598.  Here, Equifax is a 580.  On the Equifax site it is showing a 550.

I pulled all (from MyFico, and TU and Eq today.)

Thanks for your help. Semper Fi.

Hi; semi-grown-up Army brat here. Smiley Wink

USAA's scores are non-FICO's, aka FAKO's, as are those from Transunion and Equifax. It used to be pretty easy to find your FICO scores on the EQ and TU sites, but now it's nearly impossible.

Non-FICO scores (some are offended by the term FAKO) result from different scoring formulae than those that are used for FICO scores. They're also generally on different score ranges. Many of us have seen that a change on our credit reports makes our FICO's go up and FAKO's go down, or vice versa, so it's pretty difficult to project from one set of scores to another.

Few lenders use the non-FICO scores that consumers see, although some are starting to use Vantage scores*. Thus, it isn't very enlightening to see those scores, because they aren't what your lenders see if you apply for credit, or if an existing lender decides to take your credit pulse.

The TransUnion score that is obtained here is TU98. Although it is a FICO score, most TU-pulling lenders have moved on to TU04, a newer FICO score formula. Therefore many members here now regard TU98 as pretty much a FAKO as well, with some justification. As I understand it, the Powers That Be are trying to get TransUnion to start supplying TU04 here.

To boil all that down, your Equifax score from here (= Beacon 5.0) is what nearly all EQ-pulling lenders use. The TransUnion score from here, not so much, although it is a FICO score.

--and I love USAA's credit monitoring product, although I carp at them several times a year about supplying FAKO's and not clearly warning members of this. In the end, it's learning to separate credit report monitoring from credit score monitoring.

eta: *Consumers can buy our Vantage scores, but I don't think that they're ever routinely supplied with credit monitoring products. Those are generally PLUS scores or TransRisk scores, etc. You generally have to go to the Vantage score site and pull out your credit card. I'm happily ready to admit that I could be wrong on this, though.

Re: Score drastically different on a different site...

Booner, forgive me for being slow..but please break it down for me a little more.

1.  Are the score's here accurate?  Why would my score directly from Transunion be a 556, and from myfico a 598? I would think the score directly from Transunion's site would be the most accurate? No?

2.  Are the score's here what lender's would see if they pulled my credit i.e. mortgage broker's?

Sigh.  I need a nap.

It looks like haulingthescoreup did her usual outstanding job of explaining the confusing world of credit scoring.

I'll just say Semper Fi to both of you. After Vietnam I was with 1/6 at LeJeune. My MOS was 0351 but in Vietnam I was a radioman for awhile and then carried an M-60 for many. many months. So in reality I was also a 0331.  Smiley Happy

Good luck to both of you. You've come to the right place to learn about credit and money management. If you stick around and read and research and ask lots of questions I'm confident you can accomplish anything!! If this old jarhead can do it I'm sure you can also!!

You can no longer buy a Transunion FICO score directly from Transunion. I know it seems crazy but that's the way it is. The TU score here IS a TU FICO and although a somewhat older version (TU98) it is still pulled my millions of lenders each year.

Re: Score drastically different on a different site...

Hauling,

no worries. Smiley Happy

According to myfico, I currently have a 580, and a 598.  I just got a credit card (I have no revolving accounts, never have had a credit card in my whole life) with a $200 credit limit, and I got a secured installment loan of $500 through my local credit union with $52/month payments for 10 months.  I have paid of several collections (all of them are older than 3 years) bringing total collection accounts (mostly medical) from 15 accounts to 11.  I am hoping to get to a 620.  Do you think this is possible within the next 90 days with good on time payments to the new credit card and installment loan?

(PS within those 11 collections accounts, 4, yes FOUR are the same collection from the same stupid company, which i disputed and requested validation in writing via certified mail so hopefully 11 collection accounts will go to 7 soon)

Re: Score drastically different on a different site...

Ipayton - yes it's possible.  See my sig.  And all my negs were from medical collections - and yes, many difft from same company.

I've seen huge score boosts when first revolving reports, upwards of 30 points.  At least I've read about them being posted here.  I didn't specifically SEE it.

STARTING: 11/24/10 EQ-584 EXP-648 TU04-595
CLOSED FIRST HOME 8/19/11 EQ-630 EXP-691 TU04-653
CURRENT: EQ-701 EXP-??? TU08-720
