Score

My FICO 8 scores finally reach 700 across all 3. That's was a goal of mines. It took me almost 3 years to get there. I still have some student loans miss payments showing on my reports but. Nothing in the past 3 years since I went into a repayment program. I havent had any miss payments on any of my credit cards in those 3 years either. A lot of hard work a dedication is starting to pay off. Now I am sitting back and letting some of my inquiries fall off. My credit utilization went above 40 percent at one point on all my credit cards. But I did that on purpose so I could pay it down to show I am capable of paying down my balances instead of just keeping them low. But I plan on leaving them low for a while. I am trying to get under 10 thousand.

That's not how the formulas work. Utilization has no memory, and there's no benefit to letting your balances increase (but there is a score decrease until those balances are paid down).

Re: Score

Well it worked for me. As soon as I started paying alot more my scores started to increase. I was stagnant for about 7 or 8 months until I did that. I was making larger payments.

Something else happened, and you've mistaken the causal relationship. For example, you may have hit age thresholds, either with age of accounts or the falling off of inquiries, which lead to the increase in scores.

If you enjoy playing with utilization, you might consider trying AZEO. Allowing only one credit card to report a (small) balance will boost your score by a few points. It's still utilization, so it will reset monthly when balances report, but can help you eke out a few points.
