Good afternoon I was wondering why i have such a big gap in scores?
Experian: 643
Equifax: 610
Transunion: 587
Amount of debt is all the same on all 3.
Also my creditkarma, capitalone creditwise accounts shows my score as 557.
Also what is vantagescore?
VantageScore is a score that uses a non-FICO algorithm. In general, it tends to be different (sometimes higher, sometimes lower) than the FICO 8 score. I know of no lenders that use it.
Different bureaus employ the FICO algorithm slightly differently, and the records they have may differ slightly, resulting in different scores.
I have some old accounts that persist on one bureau that have long since dropped from another, and never appeared on a third.
The most marked differences occur when one bureau has lates or defaults that another does not.
EQ | 850 | 2 INQ (Auto, Mort) | 7y4m |
EX | 850 | 6 INQ (2 CC, 2 mort, 2 auto) | 7y |
TU | 850 | 1 INQ (CC) | 6y8m |
3/24 | 1/12 | AoYA 10m | AoOA 24y2m | ~1% |
Are the first 3 scores you listed Fico scores, presumably from this site? If so those are solid scores and great for you to track.
Credit Karma and Credit Wise from Cap One are two sources of Vantagescores, which are not Fico scores. Comparing those scores to your 3 Fico scores would be an apples to oranges comparison. You can pay those VS3 scores little mind, as lenders aren't going to use them they way they use your Fico scores.
As for why your 3 scores vary, it's simply because they're being drawn from different credit report data. If you go through and look at your 3 reports... EX, TU and EQ, you'll notice differences between them. You may have more hard inquiries present on one report than the others, for example. All of the accounts present on one may not be present on another report, another example. These variances in data are what lead to variances in scores. But, keep in mind that even with identical credit report data your Fico scores can vary some... usually 10-20 points is an acceptable average variance from top and bottom score if the data is all the same.
Thank you
Welcome @Anonymous!
BBS did a great job of explaining that and if you would like to go further in understanding why scores can be different at different bureaus, even with identical data, you can read the post I link below, and for a lot of good general information, you can read the Scoring Primer linked at the top of my signature.
