Seems too good to be true

I started monitoring my Fico in July because I'm buying a home and I wanted to keep on top of my score.  In that time my score has ranged from 689-695.  I checked it today and it's at 781.  Apparently a charged off account has dropped off my credit report completely (I cosigned for my then-fiancee on a loan in 2002 that he let go to collections, etc.  I only found out he hadn't been paying when the collectors started calling me because we never got married - thank God.)  It also said that my credit was no longer considered to have a short history (It's now almost 6 years since opening my first account.)  Is that enough to raise my score from 694 to 781 seemingly overnight?

Re: Seems too good to be true

A nearly 7 year old collection was my only baddie and my score went up 50 points the day it dropped.  Add a possible increase of average age (mine happens in the summer) and it is possible
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Re: Seems too good to be true

You have also added six more months of, I would assume, good payment history since July, and also you must take into account what has happened since then with you %util, whether you had inquiries that dropped off that became over 12 months, etc.  I would not attribute this entire increase to the dropping of the single baddie.  One category is never the whole reason.

Re: Seems too good to be true

I think the most confusing part of this is an account not scheduled to drop off until 2011 just disappeared.  It's still on the TU and EX reports (actually EX is showing a $7k balance - disputing that).  It just seems like someone made a mistake somewhere in my favor.

Well hallelujah. One for the good guys. God knows that there are enough things that are inaccurately reporting on our CRs and we have the hardest of times (if any luck at all) getting those things corrected. I am all for fair and accurate reporting, but that, for most people, is a pipe dream.

I have lived with inaccuracies on my reports for years, even when I had all scores in the high 700s. I got tired of fighting a fight that I couldn't win. Dispute an inaccuracy and the entire TL goes away. What?!? Sorry for the rant. I am just tired of the the idiot-owned, idiot staffed, institutions running my life. That's why I am going to fight them all the way to federal court, if I don't get satisfaction this time.

Follow procedure numbskulls. Smiley Mad
