Split File scores

For the past month, my scores have gone up and down EVERY TWO OR THREE days 150 points....someone had suggested I may have a slit credit file...what is this and how can it be fixed?

Re: Split File scores

150 points is easily possible if you have many credit cards that report a few days apart. Lets say you had a large balance. Paid it off or transferred it to another credit card. Now the other credit card that had a $0 balance now has a high balance but reports a few days after the other one that was just paid.

Day 1 you had a large debt.
Day 3 your debt was reported paid. Score went up 150 points.
Day 5 you have a new balance reported on a card that was $0 but now high. Score drops 150 points.

Just an example. Does this sound like something that may have happened?

Call the CRA and tell them you suspect a split file.. they will merge them for you.

Re: Split File scores

Thanks everybody for helping...and NO, I would never conduct my affairs to the extent that I use one credit card to pay off another! I have never had a score lower than 725...and that was my lowest. Nothing has changed on my credit file or my credit habits to make such drastic changes. I have owned four homes with no payment questions and have a sizeable amount of reserve credit for years that I hardly use. I called Equifax today - they could NOT have been nicer. Although it took about one hour and calling several people, they all assured me I do not have a split credit file. I do have an old address on my record that needed to be updated...so I am sending them a copy of my license and utility bills and we shall see what happens ALTHOUGH I still do suspect something else is up. This still sounds like a split file problem. Here is keeping fingers crosed

Re: Split File scores

Question for you Tuscani. I think most know about the dirty little secret and split files. Why do the monitoring agencies encourage daily pulls when this activity can cause split files?

Because your file generally has to be VERY thick for daily pulls to split a file. The chances are actually pretty slim. Just remember, thick files and daily pulls are not the only thing that can cause a split file.
