I just heard Suze say that paying an old collection that's been on your reports for say, five years, won't help your FICO score because by the time it's that old, it's not really hurting you that much.
 
Then she went on to say, however, that you would help your FICO score if you were to pay a collection that's very recent, like 3 months old, for example.

IMO- this is true if they are reporting every month and making it a recent late every month.  Now that many CA's are reporting as TL's it can be quite painful.

I watched the same show tonight.  All I can say is that she is DENIED in posting in this forum.

I was kidding! I hang out at a P2P lending forum and many there think she's a real expert. I tell them to come here if they want to learn about credit scoring and improving their credit.

Funny you mention.........I watched the episode tonight while I was talking with my sister and the first thing I said was she didn't give proper advise....

Yes paying a collection that old won't help too much, however she should have mentioned the Pay to Delete Method...which of course helps tremendously.

My sister laughed at me when I corrected Suze Orman!
