TU FICO 9 an utter mystery...

My last score was FICO 8 689, FICO 9 722.  I received a large credit limit increase on one card.. nothing else changed.  My FICO 8 went down a point, FICO 9 went down 24 points! **bleep**?  Meanwhile, my FAKO Vantage went up 2 points...

I am utterly confused.

Frustrating, yes. I don't know that many people here track the FICO 9 closely, it is less available than the FICO 8 commonly used as a baseline.

Do you have a view to your mortgage scores? I presume from your siggy that is your main emphasis to track.

What is the structure of the baddies making up / leading to the BK? Is it possible some of those are changing their appearance on your credit report? That may not answer the FICO 9 question, since it seems I heard that FICO 9 ages off baddies sooner, but I could be wrong. Again, not much baseline of FICO 9 activity to compare to.

1. A credit limit increase did not cause any of your scores to go down, so you can put that bit of 'confusion' out of your mind.

2. Where are you getting the FICO 8 and FICO 9 scores from and what are the dates?

3. Where are you getting your information about changes in your report from and what are the dates?

Re: TU FICO 9 an utter mystery...

Was an inquiry involved?

My very limited data from Experian FICO 9 from 2ish years ago suggested heavy penalization at least in my then current scorecard for new inquiries compared to all other FICO scores I have had access to historically.  Went from something like 780 to 740 but I wasn't tracking it closely enough to truly isolate the change, but 40 points for an inquiry is unheard of for other models and as a result it was viewed with a tremendous amount of skepticism (rightfully so, wasn't a great datapoint).

Re: TU FICO 9 an utter mystery...

I have a BK from 3/2016 and it’s the only negative on my report. I tried to do AZEO with one card reporting a small balance and it would cost me points. I have found that for me I need at least 1% of total credit line to be utilized or I lose 10 to 20 points on FICO 8. I also need at least two cards to report or I lose about the same number of points on my mortgage score. I have had a CLI cause my score to drop before because my utilization fell below 1%. YMMV but I think it might have something to do with my post BK scorecard.

If you say so, but I have never heard anything like that, and it goes against my experience and against everything I thought I knew about FICO 8.

Re: TU FICO 9 an utter mystery...

If you need 2 cards to report a balance, it's because 1 card isn't being counted by the FICO algorithm for some reason. Is one an AU account? If not and both are in fact being counted, there is no scoring benefit in having 2 cards report a balance over just 1.

As for using 1% of your limit, any non-zero reported balance even if it's a small percentage is rounded up to 1% utilization for FICO scoring PO purposes. While I have seen CMS software round down to 0, I have never heard of the FICO algorithm doing such a thing.

@SouthJamaica
I know it sounds crazy but it’s true. I’ve gone below 1% three times and it’s happened each time and reversed when I went back up to >1%. I don’t like it because now my combined limits are so high I have to allow $1150 report each month. Then I pay in full the date the statement cuts and start over. It would be much easier if I could just let a small amount report.

Re: TU FICO 9 an utter mystery...

I have 13 bankcards and 2 store cards. No AU cards. If I only have one card report my Experian mortgage score goes down not my 8’s. I only let my Venture and Navy Amex report. All of my 8’s go down if I report less than 1%. I’m certain of this.

Also when it happens I get reason codes stating I’m not using my (or enough of my) credit.
