TU Fico Score Drop

If you have a WaMu Credit Card and use their online sight, you can access your TU Fico Score.  I check mine monthly and expected it to go up this month.  Instead it dropped by 30 points.  I got a copy of my TU reports but I do not see anything knew and the 2 credit card balances were paid off in January.  I have no late payments.

Any Ideas?

Re: TU Fico Score Drop

A 30 point drop and no discernible reason? Hmmmm....well obviously SOMETHING is going on on your report. No new baddies? Paid off a car loan?

If EVERYTHING is the same, then I can suggest a change in scoring catagory(bucket).

That's what we usually say about an inexplicable score change. Smiley Wink

Re: TU Fico Score Drop

I also saw my TU score drop dramatically over the past 5 months as reported by my WAMU credit card. No late payments, no new inquiries, all I can think of is perhaps my UTIL went up some. I did call a few cards and ask for CLI and was granted by one, which should offset any charges. I went from 732 in Sept to 677 in Jan. EQ=704

Did WAMU change the way they calculate fico score? I thought maybe due to the subprime mess they have tightened up their scoring. But why didnt EQ drop? 55 points is a lot! This is perplexing, as I really want to apply for an AmEx BLUE card to raise CL and for the low fixed bal transfer, but now not sure if I will get one.

Re: TU Fico Score Drop

Dan, did your cli request result in hard inquiries? That could be one explanation. How many requests did you make? Did your utils change?

Re: TU Fico Score Drop

TU Classic '04 has helped my score with lenders that have converted. I noticed a 30 point difference a month ago between a lender that used '04 and one that used '98 (reports pulled on the same day).

Re: TU Fico Score Drop

I'm confused about the Fico score WAMU provides. On the screen it says this: "Bankcard FICO score provided by: TransUnion"

Doesn't that mean it's a score geared specifically for credit cards, and if I were to pull my TU score, it would vary ? So this score doesn't really amount to a hill of beans for me, if I'm trying to get my scores up for a mortgage - I need to focus on the actual TU score. Can anyone tell me if I'm on the right track here?

I'm waiting until a few TLs are 1 year old in April/May, and CC util is down even more, before pulling all 3 scores to see where I stand. My EQ score is 706 as of a few days ago.

Re: TU Fico Score Drop

desfink, if you are going for a mortgage, I suggest you purchase the FICO Complete product from this website. You are assured you are getting only FICO scores which most closely approximate what your mortgage person sees. Do not trust the non-FICO scores you get elsewhere.

That's just my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt.
