TU - Score Dropped 20 Points - "Bankcard Account Removed"

I tried searching the forum and through Google and only found one item on this alert.
My Transunion score dropped 20 points, and the alert says "bankcard account removed" but I can't figure out what, if any, credit card of any kind has been removed.
Does anyone know if this could be something other than a CC or maybe store CC? Or how I could find out?

I looked at my recent Report, pulled after this happened, and compared it to my last quarterly report and don't see anything removed.

I do know my student loans were sold to a new creditor and this was the first time seeing the new creditor on my report. So I thought maybe it was due to that (which would be frustrating). I don't see the old creditor listed anywhere on the new report though.

I know TU is like this, dropping points, all the time, but it's bugging me I can't pinpoint why the "bankcard account removed" alert occurred.

Hello @Kerriemeaway - welcome to the forums.

Where are you receiving the alert from? Is it coming from Credit Karma or another CMS source? Which TU score version is showing the discrepancy in the score drop?

1. What TransUnion score?

2. Where is the score from?

3. Where is the alert from?

4. Have any old closed accounts dropped off of your report?

Sorry! Guess that would've been  helpful.

Both the score and alert were MyFico.com. There was no additional information to pinpoint wat "bankcard" was removed. I have not closed any cards, and have not found any that were closed between my January and April quarterly MyFico reports. There was a collection removed during those three months but it was medical, not a bankcard.

Did you have a old closed account on your reports? Sounds like it hit 10 yrs +/- and fell off. Check the AoOA on the newest pull and last months. That age change could have been the culprit. Since it fell off you wont see it anywhere. Even check CK for the change.

The substance of the alert -- that an account was removed -- may be entirely unrelated to the score drop.

If you're absolutely sure that every open and closed revolving account listed in the January report is also listed in the April report, then I'm stumped as to what the alert meant.

Re: TU - Score Dropped 20 Points - "Bankcard Account Removed"

Is it possible that a card (whether a CC or Store Card) was closed but still on your report?  I wonder if this has happened? Check both reports and look at the status of each account and see if one was reporting open on the prior report and now reporting closed on the new one. I am by far a very knowledgeable MyFICO member but have been doing a lot of reading to learn more so this is just a guess and not much more 😉

Closed accounts act the same as a open account when it comes to FICO scores. If the accounts stay positive. You just cant use it any longer and falls off around +/- 10 yrs. The OP had a account removed. Now thats a different story in itself.

@Kerriemeawayany update?

Re: TU - Score Dropped 20 Points - "Bankcard Account Removed"

It's possible that the old account that dropped off your report is the culprit.

EX removed several old student loan accounts from my report and my score dropped by roughly 20 points. I had not added any new cards or made any changes to my profile.

I've gotten a Transunion alert today from MyFICO saying "A bankcard account was removed from your credit report".  So far no indication of a drop in score.  I'm actually able to pull a new 3B report today, so I probably will do that and try to figure out what dropped off.  I assume it was an older closed account. I sure hope it wasn't one of my oldest ones.

I've never been able to figure out what the Transunion alerts mean when they say "bankcard account" but I assume it's applicable only to revolving accounts.

UPDATE: I pulled the report, and what was removed from the report was a duplicate entry of an old $500 PLOC from PenFed which was closed 4 1/2 years ago. It's still reporting, just the duplicate was removed.

Meanwhile I have a much more serious problem. There's also a TU alert saying my bankcard credit limits have decreased by $15k.  I have no idea what that's about. I fear that it's some adverse action by somebody, but MyFICO's TU alerts unhelpfully fail to identify the specific account.

Final update on credit limit decrease: Fortunately it wasn't adverse action. It was because one of my credit unions didn't report this month's credit card info to TransUnion.
