Taking off authorized user.

Hi all,

I have my husband as an authorized user on some of my credit cards. I am trying to raise his credit score and was wondering if I take him off of some of my credit cards with high balances would it help? For example I have a card with a 3500 limit and the balance on it is 2500.00. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does he have any cards of his own?

Re: Taking off authorized user.

It would help his scores to remove because he will show lower utilization percentages. However, if he doesn't have any open credit of his own, it may do more harm in the long run.

Are you planning on paying down your cards in the near future? Does he have any need for credit before then, such as a car loan etc? If you're not going to carry the balance long term, I would leave him on them.

Re: Taking off authorized user.

He has about 4 cards, we are wanting to purchase a car in a couple of months but we each have about 50% total utilization on our cards. I was thinking I shouldn't put my name on the loan and start paying down his cards first so we can get a better interest rate?
