Threating litigation

I have a CO from Cap1 and also a collection from Midland and Professional Collections. The DOLA / delinquincy seem way off. So far these have remained on my CRAs despite dispute, since for this process *I* seem to have to prove I didn't pay that late vs them proving that I did (as far as I can remember, the DOLA was in 2000).

Someone suggested I get a credit attorney and threaten to sue. I don't want to drag out and don't have old docs. Do you think CRAs and Cap1 holding ollllld debts that are out of SOL and about to drop off (6 mos to a year) would just drop it upon being served notice by a lawyer, or am I in for a long expensive fight just to get derogs off that drop anyway between june and December of this year?
