TransUnion scores differ by 100pts

I get free TransUnion scores monthly through my Discover and Capital One cc accounts, and I also pay MyFico quarterly for a TransUnion score. I've noticed that there is a 100 pt difference between my capital one report and the other two similar scores monthly and quarterly. Can anyone tell me why there's such a big point differential in TransUnion scores and which one is more accurate?

Capital One Score is not Fico Score.  I think it is Vantage.

Thanks, I think you're right and I haven't heard of Vantage so I'll be checking it out. The capital one report threw me off because it says it's powered by TransUnion and I thought they were all the same. After reading the "fine print," it says that their reports are strictly for educational purposes only and not for lending. I just don't see the point in having an educational report that doesn't involve learning about lending.

Well, the general categories of items that affect your score, those are probably useful, since the CapOne tracker has to access your TU file to know those. The issue is that the actual number they propose is not a FICO number. But one can still get some understanding of some of the factors that might be affecting a score, the larger common concerns.

It's not even Vantage; it's some score that's even more lame.

Depends on the intended target.  Discover provides a TransUnion FICO 8 which is accuate but only for that CRA and scoring model.  Make sure you always consider the CRA and scoring model.  myFICO is accurate as well.  You should have access to not only your TransUnion FICO 8 but other FICO's as well with myFICO.  There isn't just one FICO model used by creditors.  See also the stickies in this subforum.

The "educational" score I get from TU once a year is the older VantageScore 2.0 (scale 501 to 990). The Discover card Fico score based on the TU report is Fico 08 classic 300 to 850). As a result, a 100 point score offest between this older VantageScore 2.0 and Fico 08s is not surprising.

Unlike EQ and EX, I am not aware of TU having an internally developed scoring model - at least not one currently in use.

Fico 9: .......EQ 850 TU 850 EX 850
Fico 8: .......EQ 850 TU 850 EX 850
Fico 4 .....:. EQ 809 TU 823 EX 830 EX Fico 98: 842
Fico 8 BC:. EQ 892 TU 900 EX 900
Fico 8 AU:. EQ 887 TU 897 EX 899
Fico 4 BC:. EQ 826 TU 858, EX Fico 98 BC: 870
Fico 4 AU:. EQ 831 TU 872, EX Fico 98 AU: 861
VS 3.0:...... EQ 835 TU 835 EX 835

Transunion has more than a dozen proprietary models they sell.

If you're curious.  The poster previously that stated it was TU's New Accounts Score was right... and IMO it's one of the worst.

Re: TransUnion scores differ by 100pts

Sometimes I think some of these models are just to make fico not seem like such the bad guys after all, lol.

In all honesty, every single one of my actual FICO scores are significantly higher than any of the other scores from anywhere, especially those driven by models designed by the credit bureaus... and when I think about that statement twice, I'm not really surprised by that.

I look at my score through capital one, but it is mostly for entertainment purposes. I'm just following to see how it tracks along with my other scores.

I frankly do not worry about any of the scores except for trying to find out which one will be used for my next planned credit transaction.
