Transunion/Equifax Difference

I have a fairly decent (725) Equifax Score but the Transunion is bad (638).  The transunion has one tiny collection account that I paid over a year ago (less than $50) and a credit card with negative history that belongs to my husband.   I was only an authorized user on this card and it does not show up on any of my other credit reports.  Is there anything I can do about that?  I want to get a car loan.....how do I know which score they will use? Please advise me on any steps I can take.

Re: Transunion/Equifax Difference

You can try to write the collection agency a goodwill letter asking them to delete the account.  May or may not work.  If you list the name of the collection agency, someone may have tips to help you deal with them or good contact info for you.  For the authorized user account, you can have your husband call up and remove you as an authorized user (you may be able to do this yourself as well).  You could also dispute with the CRA that is reporting the card, as the account is not yours, but save that for the last resort and try to go through the card issuer first.

As for which score they will use, who knows.  You can aske the dealer what score they will pull before you apply.  They may not pull any of the scores you have access to but might pull auto enhanced FICO scores.  Just have to ask them what they do.

Hello and welcome to the Forums.

May I ask where you bought your scores? I only ask because there are fewer and fewer places left who will sell you true FICO scores.

Re: Transunion/Equifax Difference

Thank you for your help.  I just received notice that the negative credit card has been removed from my TU report.  How long should I wait before I check the score again?

Really depends on when they do their reporting for the month + the amount of time it takes for it to post. Rule of thumb is 60-90 days but I have seen it take as little as a few days.
