UPDATE: Score up 21 points!!!! NO LONGER!

This is straight from the horse's mouth:

Your FICO® score has gone up to 653 on December 7, 2007.
Target score alert: Your FICO® score has exceeded your target score of 638.
Interest rate alert: Your new score of 653 may qualify you for a new interest rate of 11.982%.
Rate as of November 16, 2007 for a 15 year home equity loan. See interest rates for all FICO® scores.

Your FICO score may have gone up because the following factor is not hurting your FICO score as much as before:

  • You have multiple accounts showing missed payments or derogatory descriptions.

Changes to your credit report
Your FICO® score went up on a day when there were no credit alerts on your Equifax Credit Report™. This can happen if:
  • The balances on one or more of your credit accounts decreased. In general, less debt is better for your score.
  • The credit limit on one or more of your credit accounts increased. Larger credit limits tend to help your FICO® scores if your balances remain the same.
  • Negative information on your credit report, such as a bankruptcy, collection, or record of a late payment, was removed because it was more than 7 years old (or 10 years old in the case of a bankruptcy).
  • Negative information on your credit report is not harming your FICO® score as much as before because it is now older. Past negative credit behavior, like missing payments or defaulting on loans, are offset over time by more recent history of credit responsibility.

No new accounts were added to my reports and the balances are all the same as yesterday. The only two possibilities for the score increase are 1) my car loan turned 1 year old this month and 2) my (paid) collection turned 3 years old this month.

Woo hoo! 653! I am so excited, this is the highest I have gotten so far! I can't wait until all my new accounts report and see what the final score is!

Keep it up!!
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Re: Score up 21 points!!!!

Oh, shoot, Megan, I was just getting ready to send the congrats post! Smiley Sad What reasons did they give on the score alert?

BTW, I once got a score alert that said that my score might have gone down due to a late payment. I went into hysterics and checked everything, but nothing was late. Still mad about that! So don't freak if you get something that isn't correct.

Re: Score up 21 points!!!!

I know why it went down. I opened a HSBC CC and it was lost in the mail, so I called they canceled the card and sent me a new one. Well, they reported the lost card to the bureaus as open, I got a score increase (slight, like 7 points), they later closed it and marked as lost (no score change). The new score loss is because the new card/account number showed up on my EQ.

Not freaking fair.
