Re: Utilization Question

@Brian_Earl_Spilner thanks for the page, always grateful for the DPs! Actually, @Anonymous found the 5% threshold which may only exist on young or thin profiles. However @RobertK , there are also balance Thresholds which could be the cause.

Interesting, that would effectively describe my profile when I got the 1 point ding when my utilization went from 2% to 7%; I only had two credit cards at the time and had yet to open my SSL (which will happen next week).

Chapter 13:

  • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank (now Bank of Southern California)
  • Filed: 26-Feb-2015
  • MoC: 01-Mar-2015
  • 1st Payment (posted): 23-Mar-2015
  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020
  • Closed: 23-Jun-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

That 5% threshold is now one of the most concrete things I have found. And I'm about to hit it again with the same expected loss of points as the other 9 times. Link to post tracking these.

I'm at $1240/3% right now before my 4th and final card reports $759 this month. (Space:$1999!)

That will take me to 5% and I'll lose around 3-6 points on EQ/TU/EX 8, so it's not much really. The interesting thing is that it's still happening at AoOA 3yrs 4mo (AoORA 2yrs 4mo).

Re: Utilization Question

I retract that about young or thin profiles.

My suggestion is that instead of jumping from 3% to 5%, go from 3% to 4% to 5% to 6% to 7% to 8%. If you do that it may disprove your theory that there is something especially meaningful about 5%, and prove my theory that it's more of a spectrum than a series of bumps and grinds.

I already did all that. Some of that is explained in my 4/5% threshold post. I've been through them all in the first 2 years of having credit cards.

Only the 5% threshold does anything. 6,7,8 and 9 don't do anything on the 8s up to where I am now - 3yr 4mo AoOA.
