I'm done applying for cards and don't have daily need to see my score increase but wanted to make sure I was doing things the best way possible for future CLI and overall credit management. For the record I will never let a card report at 60% Util.
Even though it wouldn't have a drastic effect on my score I wouldn't be able to sleep at night.

If I hear correctly, and my calculator works, you have a BCE with a $500 limit? It likely gets rewards that you like, and you would like to get a CLI from AMEX?
By all means, use that $500 limit. Seriously. I had a $2k limit on my Delta Gold card initially. Used it regularly for about $500 - $600 per month for a year, then started really leaning on it, ran it up to $1,950, paid it down, started running it up toward $2k again and they gave me an auto CLI to $3k.
How long have you had the card? AMEX loves card users who use their card heavily. It's best with the low limit cards to PIF so you can use it again, but even carrying some balance isn't too much of a negative. Have you read up about the 3X CLI that you may be able to ask for?
At some point in the near future, with heavy use (or light use) and PIF and good payment history over all, you should be able to ask for, or possibly be given, a CLI.
