Utilization at 0, all scores dropped

My cap one plat and quicksilver updated to zero balance and my scores started dropping like flies. Lol I'm waiting for my chase freedom to report cause that's the card I'm carrying a small balance to report. It's kinda funny how you get penalized for not having debt on your cards. Smiley Frustrated. Oh well no biggie, should rebound nicely in a couple days when other card reports.

I played around with this a bit last year--letting just one report, then adding another. Switching which card reports, etc. Definitely saw a drop when none reported and an increase when one reported. Got to where I just let the same card report each month, and that card happened to be the one that offered an intro 0% APR, so it all worked out great.

Re: Utilization at 0, all scores dropped

There is ALWAYS more than ONE moving piece regarding scoring.......never 'just' my zero balance =

there are other plates spinnin, even if you don't see them...the 'computer program' runs data and crunches numbers, milestones,

avgs etc ...there is 'something' else that helped the RISK score be what it was ....

I can't say based upon the info you shared but there's something

All $0's is always a negative, test it yourself if you don't believe the literally thousands of pieces of anecdotal evidence reported here.  It really doesn't have to be complex for some simple things like this.

Nope, nothing else changed, just the reporting balance of 0 on all cards. I figured it was gonna happen just have to wait a couple days for balance to report on other card. It's all about experimenting and learning what moves the score

+100000000

YOU MUST LEAVE AT LEAST ONE CARD WITH A BALANCE TO PREVENT THAT SCORE DROP.

It's a rule that's part of the FICO scoring system.

Nothing more, nothing less, just a rule that is applied to everyone's FICO score profile.

I just learned this today. Can you elaborate what the ideal distribution is?  Let's say I have 3 cards, two are unsecured for $500 and one secured $1000 limit.  Should I leave a balance on all of them? Or just one?

1) Don't worry about secured vs unsecured the algorithm doesn't 'see' or care about that (that's us humans, regarding 'vanity')

2) As mentioned above as long as 1 card reports 'some' usage you're fine (there is debate whether 1-9% is 'best') but there is no debate that it must be 'something'

Think 1-9% = A ...where 10-29% = C.....and so on

My confusion w/ the OP was at 1st the 2 Cap-1's were mentioned as zero balances along WITH mention of a Chase that seemed to have 'some' balance...

which would affect the algorithm, even using an old undated number from a prior reporting and only other option would be that the Chase would be reporting for the very 1st time, thus making it a 'new' account (which has it's own pull on scores)....the data wasn't quite clear on what data the algorithm had at the time regarding the Chase account in relation to the 2 Cap-1 accounts. What is 'going' to report (later) isn't the data used at the moment the algorithm crunches the most recent up-to-date at that exact moment.

Meaning that IF 'after' the Chase reports an additional score is run then the algorithm will give a score as of that moment....there are plenty of times where I KNOW the numbers reported are off by a month (or more) with regard to balances but the computer reads what it has not what it's gonna be.....

So again if the 2 cards had zero balances what was reported at the time for the Chase or any other account that info wasn't shared via the OP ....which is why I say 'most' times there are things that ppl 'forget' to say/see ( not always but you've got to ask and inquire b/c ppl are ppl...and have been for 25 years of doing this stuff) just saying Smiley Wink
