Re: Wachovia credit inquiries on my report without application for credit

I chimed in on a thread a couple of months ago about this. When I first got into banking in 1993, the only reason why we pulled credit was because someone was applying for credit. Somewhere in the late 90's, it because en vogue to pull for checking accounts, with or without OD protection. The pull was actually part of the account opening program. We initially had the ability to override that if there was an established customer. Then, it got to the point where it was a must for checking accounts. It is absolutely ridiculous for a bank to hard you on a savings account. It is laughable.

Fused, to answer the question about the TSA, I actually heard that rumor, as stupid as it is, I actually heard that rumor a couple of years ago.

Well, first of all, I already had an account open when I opened this CD. Secondly, other banks don't do this to first time customers who open CDs. I will never loan Wachovia my $ again. Even if they have good rates.

elliptic, that's how we make our voices heard. I just don't think that we are going back to the mid '90's on this one. What one generation will allow, the next will enjoy...

I opened 2 checking and 2 savings, one each on two different days and had 2 inquiries [at Wachovia]. I agree that a inquiry for a savings is overkill.

Re: Wachovia credit inquiries on my report without application for credit

Remember that the FCRA does not just apply to the big three, but to Chex as well.

We all know that banks routinely check Chex when opening deposit accounts.  Since the FCRA does not distinguish between different types of CRAs, if they are allowed to pull Chex, they are allowed to pull the big three, as well.

I agree they really don't have a reason to pull anything OTHER than Chex for a deposit account, but I still maintain they have a right to.
