Hello all! Long time lurker and first time poster. My FICO says my Equifax score is 530 but Credit Karma shows it at 745 and Equifax itself shows it at 730. I understand there are different scoring models between FICO 8 and Vantage but what causes a score to be different by over 200 points. That seems ridiculous. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Welcome @vtcredit91
FICO is the real score lenders go by. The other higher scores are Vantage based. Whole different scoring system. Look at the higher scores and at the bottom may say Vantage 3.0. Which CK and EQ gives to consumers. MyFICO is the true score.
@Allost wrote:Different scoring models have different score ranges. FICO scores typically range from 300 to 850, while VantageScores may have a different range.
For versions 3.0 and 4.0, Vantage Score uses the same 300-850 range as the baseline FICO scores. The scores that have different ranges are the earlier Vantage Scores (which are no longer used anywhere, I believe), and the industry-specific FICO scores, like the bankcard and auto scores, which range from 250-900. Vantage Score also has some industry specific versions, and while I don't know their ranges for sure, my auto VS is 855 (per Credit Karma), so I suspect VS mimics FICO's range among the industry-specific scores as well.
VS 3.0 commonly varies from FICO 8, but it's typically 20 points not 200. And two Equifax FICO 8 scores should be using the same model and the same reported data, and as a result they should only vary because they were snapshots taken at different times, and thus might have slightly different aging metrics or newer/older data. @vtcredit91, it sounds like something major recently fell off or was added to your Equifax profile, like a collection. Have you compared the credit report from MyFICO with the reports from CK and Equifax to see if there's a major discrepancy?

I would suspect one or more derogatories are impacting Fico 8 score (such as a paid charge off over $100) that are ignored on VS3 and perhaps the inhouse EQ score. Also, a high # of accounts reporting even small balances may hurt EQ Fico 8 more than EQ VS3.0.
