What should I do?

I have a Sears credit card account on my credit report that has one 30 day late from May 2004.  The account was opened in 2/1985, closed in 2/2004.  DOLA is 10/2004, and date reported is 7/2009.  This account is my oldest trade line.  Lenght of credit history is 25 years 1 month.  AAA is 11 years 5 months.  Would it be worth it to goodwill the late, or will the account drop off if i do and lower my AAA?

Re: What should I do?

The length of the account history far outweighs any damage the 30 day late is doing at nearly 6 years of age. The reward isn't worth the risk, especially with it being your oldest account.

Re: What should I do?

What you usually GW for is the deletion of the 30-day, and not ask for account deletion.

A 30-day late in 5/2004 will drop from credit reporting after 5/2011, and is hurting you vvery little now.  Deletion of the derog itself wont result in deletion of the account, and thus its age, from your CR.  The FCRA only mandates the dropping of derogs from your CR, not the dropping of accounts.

If you ask for GW deletion, it could possibly result in the OC doing an account deletion, which is clearly not in your benefit for any account with 25 years of aging.

I would leave it alone.
