Re: Why are my scores so low?

That's odd that it won't allow you to do another trial... strange, as many have done a ton of trials, myself included.

Whether your scores increase more from your balance paydowns depends on if you crossed any utilization thresholds with those paydowns.

I think because I waited to long to cancel and it charged me for the full month. I canceled it, but it's probably not going to let me do another free trial until the whole month that I paid for is up. Totally forgot about that!

I definitely crossed some utilization thresholds. My Wells Fargo is about 62% used, which I paid down to below 30%, and my PayPal card shows 33% utilized, which I payed down to 0%. Synchrony caught me off guard when they reported all these balances out of nowhere.

I think I've found the sacred map that may lead me to this garden everyone keeps talking about.

Re: Why are my scores so low?

Many areas of your CR just need to grow.  That takes time.

I would NOT apply for ANYTHING for a year.

Keep paying on time and get/keep your utl under 9%.

You should see quite a score jump within a year after your collection falls off.

Re: Why are my scores so low?

If you think that forgetting to cancel CCT is a risk (it would be for me too) then you should do the following for your future trials:

Buy a prepaid VISA card.  Keep about $14 on it.  Always use that for your CCT trials.

Grab your scores, print out the 3B report, and then cancel it immediately.  Don't wait and try to remember later.  This approach is not necessary for many people, but it's the smartest and simplest move for you and me.

Call them up and tell them you cancelled within the trial period, but the trial never cancelled.  CCT has a bunch of quirky issues that many have reported regarding this subject, so the CSRs are actually quite used to this.  Twice I've used this line and twice they've promptly refunded me the full membership price, no questions asked.  Just consider it a Mulligan.

I agree 100% with CGIDs above recommendation to use a prepaid card to avoid ever being charged a full membership fee.

Regarding his second point, there is a minor asterisk that I'd include.  He suggests after doing your pull to cancel immediately.  There's nothing wrong with doing this, but depending on how you cancel will determine if you can do your second (free) pull 7-10 days later.  If you cancel over the phone, you'll still get the second pull.  If you cancel the quick/easy way online, you'll waive the ability to do that second pull.  For someone that is only looking for 1 pull in the first place, no biggie either way.  If you're someone however looking for a before/after pull for a specific event, it would be a best practice to cancel over the phone after the initial trial pull.
