Why did my Fico drop 3 pts w/no change in credit profile?

I'm confused. I had been subscribing to Equifax's Score Watch for over a year and slowly watching my score climb. I have been 100 percent diligent on making all payments and no inquiries for new credit in over 2 years. All of a sudden this month shows my score dropped 3 points. I re-ordered all 3 reports and see nothing has changed other than my balances have been reduced on the accounts I currently pay.

I hold an equity line of credit, one auto loan, and one credit card...that's it! That's all it's been for almost 2 years with not one missed payment. The balances are nowhere near their limits and not near being paid off either. I have not increased the balance on the loans at all and have not used the cc in over a year. The last increase in score was a 15 pt jump over a 3 month period in Jan. Now April a 3 pt drop!!!!

What is the deal? Any insight would be great.

PS. Equifax deferred to this site as they insist it is not their score, but rather Fair Isaac that comes up with the score and they just report it.

Your account is put in a pool of similar individuals per se (e.g. those with a recent bk, individuals starting out credit, etc etc). What likely happened is you moved from one pool to another. This means you'll be able to get overall better scores in this newer pool, although there is a small change like this because of how you look in this new pond as a small fish as opposed to a big fish in the previous smaller pond.

Thank you for the insight. Your suggestion about a recent bk is dead on. CH7 June 2k5.

FYI the score was 661 down to 658.

I guess this is a good thing then. Here's to getting better scores!

Thanks again.
