Why is TrueCredit and MyFICO showing my credit score totally different?

Need help!

I have been using TrueCredit for about 3 years now to monitor my credit reports and scores, and my Equifax score here on myFiCO is 510 but on TrueCredit it is telling me that my Equifax score is 611.

Question? Why are both companies 100+ points off on my Equifax score?

Question? TrueCredit is telling me that my 611 score is only what Equifax is providing them, so it is accurate and up to date.  So who do i believe to provide me accurate scores?

I must have a 610+ score in order to be approved for a loan, and i have been working on my credit for the past 6 months, and I achieved my goals and seems like i will get the loan.  Next thing i know, out of curiosity, i join myFiCO site and pay for their online services, and this site is now telling me my score is only 510?

This is so dissapointing and discouraging.

Anyone have any experience with TrueCredit and can tell me if they are really reliable or should i continue using myFiCO?  Who is accurate?

Robert

TrueCredit is a FAKO score

Truecredit is a good site for informational purposes only when it comes to credit reports.  I use it to make sure nothing has changed on a credit reports, however, the site has always been off for me when it comes to my actual scores.

This link should help you understand the truth about credit scores.  Good luck and I hope you can raise your score in order to get that loan.

Re: Why is TrueCredit and MyFICO showing my credit score totally different?

The True Credit scores are FAKO scores which are not used by anyone.  The "adivce" they offer to raise your credit score can actually hurt your real FICO score.  Only scores that say FICO credit score are what you should buy,  I buy mine here as most people here do.  You can also get your EQ FICO score from the EQ site if you use their version of Score Watch.

True Credit is a cheap way to pull your credit report to see what is going on and if something significant happend, buy the scores here.

Robert, if you haven't already done so, click the link that TheTaxMan provided and read credit scoring 101 (at least the first post). Also, TTM and Marty gave good advice--listen to them.

Re: Why is TrueCredit and MyFICO showing my credit score totally different?

For comparison I pulled some reports/scores yesterday. The information being reported on my reports is identical. Only the scores were different. Here are the result  MyFico TU: 792, True Credit (fako): 756, Credit Karma (fako): 679.

Big difference! I'll stick to Myfico because I want the most accurate general scoring product available anywhere!

Re: Why is TrueCredit and MyFICO showing my credit score totally different?

OK, i called TrueCredit and they said they have their own scoring model, and that was it.  TrueCredit gave me their # to corporate office supervisors line 866-212-2170 and they told me the same thing, that their are 1000's of scoring calculation models out there.

Here are a few questions:

1.  Does the credit score come straight from the 3 credit bureaus only, which is the ONLY score that matters to lendors?

2.  When I spoke to TrueCredit, at first they said they are getting their data directly from the 3 credit bureaus, which makes me believe the info i am looking at is accurate and true.  If this is not accurate, then why don't they put a disclaimer on the credit score page stating "This credit score is based on a calculation method provided by TrueCredit only, and is not a score provided by the 3 credit bureaus.  Therefore, your credit scores may vary!"

3.  I paid TrueCredit money for 2 years and always believed that TrueCredit was accurate and true at all times, and the information they provided me was data straight from the 3 credit bureaus, because I trusted them to be providing me with ALL the info i need to make decisions and take action to fix my credit (until i found myFICO site and learned I was mislead all along).  I spent countless hours fixing my credit based on TrueCredit so i can get a loan, and now i cannot because my scores were 100 points lower than what TrueCredit told me.  If they failed to disclose this information on the credit score page, isn't this subject to a lawsuit?

Seriously, they are providing a product and service that is emotionally affecting peoples lives and businesses and i take this seriously.  What did TrueCredit do to me, they hung up on me when I demanded an explanation, because it is just a job to them and all about profits to them.

FICO scoring is not provided by the Credit Bureaus - is a product of Fair-Isaac - it's their algorithm, and people pay Fair-Isaac to get scores BASED on the information reported by the three major bureaus.

Robert, as pointed out Read Credit Scoring 101    <------  Very important. It'll answer all of your questions.

Generally speaking, there is only 1 FICO score [well, there are 3 different FICOs for each CRA, but am driving a point], and this is the only site in the world that offers all three together. TC doesn't offer a FICO score. Experian doesn't offer one. TransUnion doesn't offer one. Freecreditreport.com and all of their annoying jingles doesn't offer FICO scores. CreditKeeper, Credit Secure, CreditKarma, VantageScore, EX Plus and many many others do not offer FICO scores. Ah, but EQ does, but they are the only CRA that offers a FICO (via agreement with FI). Ignore all of these other scores. These are not real scores. MyFICO is the only place to get all three FICO scores together in one place.

The only score that matters is a FICO. Mortgage lenders and others don't use all the other ones sold out there.

TU created a monitoring product called TC (TrueCredit). Those are not FICO scores, but FAKOs, or fake scores. TC and all the others listed above try their best to compete with the FICO score. But they cannot because lenders don't use them, however, they figured that it is a cash cow, so they promote it. They never said that they are offering you a FICO score. They just offered a score, but unrelated to FICO. Ignore those scores. But use the reports; it has the same info as you'd find on all 3 CRAs.

No, they aren't subject to a lawsuit because they never said that they would provide you with a FICO score. It is up to us consumers to get educated on what's real and what's not. We often make a bad assumption that any score we see must be a FICO.

Again, ignore TC scores. These are not real scores. The only place to get all three FICO scores together is through myFICO.

If you ever see a credit score again, look in the fine print. Look for the word "FICO" in the context that the score being offered is a FICO score. You can also get your FICO score from transunioncs.com for TU, from EQ directly if you order the report too, and one or two other sources. But this is the only site to get all 3 FICO scores together.

And I get your frustration. There are many a post like yours. Many hear the term "credit score" and assume that it is a FICO score. I was guilty of this too. I made the same assumption too when I first started repair.

Edited to clarify.

To clarify and expand, your FICO scores are physically produced by the credit bureaus/ CRA's, but the CRA's use the FICO score formulas to create them. The CRA's also have their home-grown FAKO scores, using different formulas.

So if you go through myFICO (or a very few other paths), you will receive FICO scores. If you go directly through TU and EX, you will get their FAKO's. If you go directly through EQ, and you only get your EQ score, it is a FICO, but if you opt for their triple score report, the scores will be FAKO's. (I try really hard not to think about this last one too much!)

myFICO doesn't maintain any credit information. It's the consumer portal to get your FICO scores from the bureaus. The info that shows up on your myFICO reports is what the credit bureaus have on you. The info, run through the FICO formulas, results in your FICO scores.

Re: Why is TrueCredit and MyFICO showing my credit score totally different?

OK, I have learned alot on this forum and i just paid myFiCO to view all 3 of my credit reports and scores for the next year and will go by the info on this site.  I have been using TrueCredit since 2004 paying $14.95 per month and it is amazing they could not teach me in 4 years being with them what i actually learned on the myFiCO site and forum in 1 week.  AMAZING!

Regardless, TrueCredit should include disclaimers on their credit score page.  They do not because they prefer their own profits over helping the consumer become more educated and providing a valuable service.  TrueCredit lost me as a customer for good.  They do not want to educate their customers because if they did, they would lose their customers.

So what everyone is saying is this:  If I want a loan or if i want to buy a car, every lendor out there is getting a FICO credit score from this site.

Now i have to spend another 1-2 months doing what i did the last 2-3 months and get my score to 650, when i thought my credit score was already 614 as of today when my FOCO score is really 510.

Thanks everyone!

Robert
