Why so long??

Why does it take EQ and TU so long to update their credit files?? I have a creditor that has removed derogatory info from my file, and Experian saw fit to delete the erroneous info within two weeks. However, EQ and TU have yet to remove it, and it has been almost 45 days now.

They aren't as slow to update with negative info,  like inquiries, I can  tell you that.

What can you do to "encourage" them to get up off of their butt?

Re: Why so long??

Nothing you can do to change the process.

EX is always first. EQ usually follows 2-3 days behind, and TU follows 2-3 days behind EQ.

If there has been more than a week or two and EQ and TU are still reporting a derogotory that EX has dropped, more than likely it is not going to be removed. They don't lag THAT far behind.

Re: Why so long??

If you have a letters from your creditor telling you that they will delete the derogatory information from your credit reports, make LOTS of photocopies of that letter and mail a copy to Equifax and Transunion.  Keep your original letter in your own files, of course, but send photocopies weekly, if necessary, until you see that the negative information has indeed been deleted.  Even though a creditor has told you they will take care of getting the updated info to all 3 credit bureaus in a letter to you, the "follow-up" is your responsibility.  No one cares about your finances as much as you do!

Re: Why so long??

Good advice, and that is exactly what I will do.

Interesting that they aren't as lax about reporting inaccurate information as they are about removing it.

Re: Why so long??

Just because a creditor says they reported to all three CRAs on the same date does not necessarily make it so.  As you have said, creditors have more incentive to quicly report derogs than they have to report deletion of derogs.

Sometimes reporting to each CRA is staggered.  It might not necessarily be due to CRA delay.

Re: Why so long??

It's odd. Ex can delete a derrog within one business day. Perhaps their electronic processing is more efficient.

Re: Why so long??

From my experience Experian is very quick. Every part of their process is quick. BofA is also fast. I normally see one of my BofA accounts that closes at midnight, sends info to EX, who updates my credit report, and it is waiting for me when I logon at 3AM when I start my day. I don't know how much faster they are than that because I'm not interested in getting up any earlier. However, if the combination of BofA updates and Experian updates is done in 3 hours, it is fast enough.

Also, Experian updates a report online in 1/10 the time of TU or EQ.

Of course, Experian has other issues.

Also, to be fairl, EQ and TU do seem to be updating faster than they did a few years ago..................................
