closing credit cards - effect on scores?

How long dous it take for a credit score to climb back up if you close a credit card account? I would like to pay 2 off but when they are paid off and there is no monthly payment it shows on your credit as a skiped payment, what are my best options? I want to get down to just having 1 credit card.

If you close a good, positive CC, you might actualy lose some points depending upon how the CL is reported before and after.

My suggestion would be to go ahead with your PIF to bring the UTL down and hence bring your scores back up but not to close the cards.

Regarding skipped payment, I think basically no data/activity was reported for that month. Its either OK or Late or just not reported for any given month.
