credit history vs. usage

My credit score is good but a large factor holding it back is that my usage on my revolving accounts is high. This is due to me being listed as an authorized user on one of my parents cards which is maxxed out to the tune of 20k.

So I wouldn't think twice about asking them to remove me except that since they added me when I was about 2 years old, it predates any of my other credit history by almost 20 years.

So my question is what would be better for my score, the history or the greatly reduced usage?

Re: credit history vs. usage

I wasn't aware simply being removed as an AU removes the account from counting in your credit history. Does it?

oh I don't know. I had just assumed that it would since it would drop off the usage right? But if the history would remain that would be a much easier choice.

Re: credit history vs. usage

A maxed out cc would be a ding but unless you have several other cc maxed out it might be ok to leave it as is.  If your overall credit is good, the removal of the TL may also be beneficial. The score simulator is a tool you can use to est what your score might be without the TL.

Also, in order for it to be removed from your CR's, you will need to contact the bureaus  directly

Can you see what your AAoA is to see if it is indeed impacting your scores?
