I have been pouring over credit report because we had a recent score drop (6 points) due to our Utilization going up (but we haven't accumulated more debt) trying to figure out what has happened with that still, and still stumped no accts closed of CL drops, the only thing I can think of is that it's not counting one of our CL's for some odd reason...any how I have been comparing EQ TU (from my fico) for any differences..TU score is 688, and Eq is 649...the ONLY difference I can see is that Eq has 4 inquiries and TU only has 2. Could this cause a 39 point difference in scores? I know the scores normally arent exactly alike, but almost 30 point diff seems like a lot to me!! The good news is one inq will be a year old tomorrow so it will fall off.....any thoughts?? not sure if it makes a difference but on my EQ hurting your score section it lists looking for crdit/inq's, and on TU it doesn't it is listed on the green/good side.....
Have started to feel like trying to raise these scores are just as hard as raising kids except the score can't talk back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry! One more question...because our UTI increased up to like 76% i am scrambling trying to get it down lower, I think next week I can get it around 48% I know best case scenairo I should be under 9% but that is going to take some time like months....do you think I will get a decent increase going from 76% to 48% or should I just wait until I can get it all under 9% to make a payment?
Thanks!!

Check your before and after report to look for differences. 6 points isn't much and could have been caused by any number of things. Look at the before and after balances. Also look at the before and after CLs too to make sure those didn't change. When looking at the FICO report, make sure the overall utilization didn't change, if reported as a positive or negative factor. Also look at the Credit-At-A-Glance page to see if any of those figures changed. Something seemingly minor, like an additional CC with a balance, could throw your score off a little.
Don't compare EQ FICOs with TU FICOs. The formula is different. If you look in my siggy you'll see a scoring difference despite the same info being on both, with the exception that EQ is older but has more inquiries. Also, EQ doesn't like util as much as TU. EQ seems to react more with newer accounts than TU. And TU really hates cards over the limit. YMMV of course.
Point increase on the dropped 1 yr old inquiry? Probably none. The damage fades over time. However, if you have any new TLs associated with that inquiry, then you may see an increase when it hits a year old...depends on your AAoA, your scoring bucket, other accounts reporting, etc.

As a rule of thumb and certainly unofficial, but in my experience for every 10% of overall utilization I bring down, I gain 10 points....with a couple of stipulations: 1) you have a good mix of credit (at least a couple of revolving and a charge) and 2) most of the points gained will come from paying your cards 20-30% all the way to getting them below 9%. So, if you have a good mix, and you pay off all your cards, but one, to zero and pay the remaining to 9% or less, I bet you'd see a 75-85 point gain. YMMV based on a number of factors of course. Paying them to 48% won't result in a 30 point gain, maybe 10, but most of the points will appear as you pay it closer to $0.
IMO, keep paying on them. If you are score junkie like some of us, then you'll see those changes as you pay down the debt. Congrats on that.
Thanks for your response, I am heading to compare the reports for the millionth time again lol
I have enough savings to pay down to under 9%, but it would take all of my savings so I am a bit scared to do it. I like having the saving and knowing that if rain falls I can tap into that rather than a cc which in a prior life I would have just charged it!!!
Such a hard decision, and we are wanting to buy a house the beginng of the summer through USDA so I am freaked!!!

I wouldn't use your savings. Don't leave yourself with no cushion. Just attack those balances as aggressively as possible.
