increase by 142 points, only to drop 142 points 4 days later

On Monday, I got a scorewatch email alert that said my score had increased by +142, placing me above 700 (finally). I was shocked by this huge increase. When I read the alert, it said there were multiple reasons my score could have increased, including multiple accounts becoming older, etc. but no "main" reason. I was suspiscious. Then, this morning I received an email alert that said my score had DECREASED by -142 points. What's going on here? My alert for this notice says my credit length is too short (say what? I've had credit for more than 15 years) and that I've made heavy use of my available revolving credit. I haven't used either of my credit cards (I only have two) or any other revolving credit in months. Is this a weird myFico glitch or is something screwing with my credit?

briwims, maybe you have a split file. I know just enough about them to be dangerous, but it happens when your CRA file gets big and breaks up. Some of your info winds up in file a, and the rest is in file b. If your baddies clumped over in one file, that file might have a terrible score. Also, if your older accounts got clumped together, the other would have a short history. If it's a split file, you have to get the CRA to glue it back together again.

With luck, Tuscani or fused or one of the other vets will ride to your rescue, but your case sounds a lot like what another poster was describing.

On the other hand, if the +142 was legit, you will have to tell us how you did it! good luck

Re: increase by 142 points, only to drop 142 points 4 days later

The same thing happened to me....One day I received alert score went up 10 pts. 3 days later it went down 10 pts. and I, didnot do anything for that to happen...I only paid off $17,000 in bills which had been turned over to Collections, after an accident, and being out of work for over 2 yrs. And, any current creditors were  and are being paid as agreed. But, my score even after 2 mths, has not budged from 460. Funny. Under improving my credit scores. It states to; "Pay off accts. " which will help Raise my score...NOT!!! AliceM

Do you have a before\after report to compare?

Was it exactly 142 pts?

UPDATE

Ok folks, this is getting wierd. I haven't been back to the forums for a while because I just figured this whole thing was a fluke and I should just forget it. But now...it happened again.

Check this out:
9/16: 558
9/23: 700
9/27: 558
10/14: 699
10/18: 565

Before 9/16, my score has fluctuated VERY little for over a year. The only thing I have done in the last 6 months was to pay off a loan and then get a new loan witht he same bank for a higher amount. So, my debt was padi off, then I accumlated twice the debt with the new loan. This happened in August. Not sure what's going on here.

Re: UPDATE

I wound up sending an affadavit to Equifax to straighten it out.I sometimes think I should have left it alone. The problem is I didnt know which score a creditor would pull. The one I pulled was perfect!,the second not so perfect. My scores were 587 or 787.Now its around 615,go figure.I had read  you could add them and divide by 2,which would be right where EX and TU are.Sorry for rambling,I sometimes think Eq just hates me.
