why would your score go down without no new change?

This has been an emotional, frustrating process to rebuild my score. In a month my score went down 1 point on transunion. No change, on time payments, no new account changes....I'm feeling pretty defeated with this rebuilding process. Any insight to the loweing of score? Went from 660 to 659 in less than a month, my mortgage score was 621 on transunion but with 1 point down it's now 612....such BS.

I feel at this rate, my score will never go up.

Re: why would your score go down without no new change?

It's easy to get bummed about a decrease in scores, especially if there are no stated factors associated with the drop. Which credit score product(s) are you using? Many of the free sites will not provide as much information. I use myfico along with the free sites. Myfico is the best in my experience.

The good thing is that your score is fluid. It will show positive movement as you continue to make good credit choices.

Most likely its that an older item thats been dormant for a year or two has updated its reporting. This is not something that is readily apparent, and will only be discovered by the careful comparison of "reported" dates on consecutive report pulls

Re: why would your score go down without no new change?

Sorry to hear OP, but if you are rebuilding, and there are any negatives remaining on your file, that changes the predictability of the FICO scores. A 1 point change in a month should be regarded only as noise; there's not much you can do about it.

Eventually, as the negatives drop off or are removed, your score will start to rise more consistently.

Good luck!

Re: why would your score go down without no new change?

i was stuck in the 650 range for YEARS. it wasnt until the bad stuff aged a lot that i managed to get back up to low 700s. once they fell off, i got up to the 760 range.

Thank you for replying.

I use my fico -I'm little credit obsessed now, checking multiple times a day...it's discouraging at times when you think you're doing all the right things and then BOOM your score drops.

Thank you, I appreciate you guys/gals! I'm learning daily, still long ways to go.
