Message Marked Read Method

I have my messages set to be marked when read.  It works when I click on the message title on the forum page.

But ... if the thread has multiple pages and I click on the "page number"  to take me directly to a particular page (usually the last page) it does not mark the message as read.

Could they possibly do something about this so we aren't forced to open the first page of a multi-page thread when all we want to do is get to the last message posted and want to take a shortcut?

Re: Message Marked Read Method

If you've read all the posts on the previous pages, and the only unread posts are on the last page, it should show as read, once you go to the last page only. If it still shows as not read, that generally means that there were a few on the previous page that you skipped.

If it's one of those horrendous 58-page threads, or an ancient thread and you only want to read the current additions, once you're on the thread you can click on "thread options" on the left near the top and click "mark thread as read." Then it will only flag for any additional posts.

I try to read all the posts, but when it gets away from me, as it frequently does, I go to the forum page (for Credit Cards, or General Credit, etc.) and click on "Board Options," and then click "Mark all messages as read." That zeroes out the entire individual forum, and then I can start all over again. Smiley Tongue

Re: Message Marked Read Method

Thank you!  I thought I had read all of the previous pages on the threads that I was reviewing, but I have experimented with threads I have never touched and see that it works as you say it does.  My powers of observation were just not all together with me, I guess!  Smiley Surprised

Re: Message Marked Read Method

Also, there is an option in your profile to take you to your first unread post instead of the very first page. With the really long threads, it could be really annoying to try to find where you left off!

This option can be found under "My Profile" -> "Preferences" -> scroll to "Linear Format Settings" -> click checkbox next to "Automatically Jump to the First Unread Message in a Thread"

Hope that helps!

If it is the default setting, I don't know how mine got turned off ... but I'm glad to have it turned on now.

I tried turning it on when Raine posted the suggestion, but I found that I had to scroll up to remind myself what the heck the discussion was about anyway. So I gave up and turned it back off. Smiley Tongue

I'm pretty sure it's not default, probably for the reason Hauling mentioned. Smiley Happy
