Searching

When you try to do a search I have noticed some things have changed.  I put a subject in the search box and didn't get the amount of topics I would normally get.  For example, I did a search for Capital One and only 3 entries came up where before there were pages and pages.  Is something wrong with the searches?

Re: Searching

I have noticed that too. For example I did just search and typed in Capital one.... 3 results. In addition for that I have searched for somethings and expected I would probably only get a handful of results and ended up getting results that were non specific to what I was searching for. Example search for : Care Credit and my results were all for Credit Scores.

Edited _    If you go to the first page of the Fico Forums that lists all the boards you get more results for your search but I still wasn't able to get results for Care Credit.

Re: Searching

Just out of curiosity, I tried searching 'backdoor', 'back door', 'Backdoor' - not one result.

Very odd, since there's a stickied thread with 'Backdoor' in the title!

Re: Searching

Is everyone using the advanced search?

Re: Searching

Look up at the top left, to the right of the existing search box, and click on Advanced.

With advanced, you can narrow it down by poster, by board, and by other goodies. So if you think that you remember reading a good one by marty about BofA, you can just type bofa in the top box, and marty56 in the Author box, and that will cut out a lot of the junk. If you think he posted on the CC board, you can specifiy the board as well.

Unfortunately, you still can't use quotes to force a specific term search, and it defines a lot of useful words as too common to search, so good luck searching on US Bank, for instance. Smiley Tongue

Re: Searching

There's another method of searching. I don't know if there are lots of clever ways to finetune this method to yield better results.

go to google and type this in the search box:

example: backdoor site:ficoforums.myfico.com

You can use this method to search forums (and perhaps non-forums). And it appears that are ways to make the search more specific. Consider the following two examples

example 1: backdoor experian site:ficoforums.myfico.com

This might give you search results where the topics include both of the words "backdoor experian", but the results might also include topics that include only one of those two words. So in that scenario, I have found that using quotation marks around the search words seems to help:

example 2: "backdoor experian" site:ficoforums.myfico.com

Re: Searching

This method of searching seems to be especially helpful when you want to use a search word that is 3 letters or less (it appears that usually forum search engines can't find search words that are 3 letters or less).

Re: Searching

If you are in the following forum

Fico Forums > This 'n' That > Fico Forums Technical Help and search for Capital One there you will only get 2 or 3 results.

Now, go back to the main forum page Fico Forums and do the exact same search and you will get many more hits for the exact same search.

The php script for the forum can be edited to specify the search criteria for individual pages or forum wide.
