Name Change & Notifications

I got married & changed my name in October of 2010. I still have yet to get an update about this from Fico. Also, I haven't gotten any score changes, inquiries or new account notifications since my name was changed. The only notifciations I have gotten are regarding my student loans because those are in my maiden name which is the name registered to my Fico account. I opened a credit card about 2 months ago and nothing yet. My husband and I bought a house in January and that still has yet to show up on myFico. Does anyone know approximately how long it takes for these things to be updated. It's been about 7 months since my name change - I would think I would have gotten some form of noticiation by now!

Re: Name Change & Notifications

Are you referring to your goings on on your Equifax report? I'm not an expert on SW by any means, so bumping for others, but if you are subscribed to ScoreWatch then you should have been alerted to most, if not all, of those things on EQ. If I had that happen, I would first click on "My Account" above and make sure that you see the ScoreWatch bar (below your scores) and then I would click into that. Specifically, I would click the "Alerts" tab to see if there was any activity. If your e-mail changed, for example, then maybe there's an issue with receiving the alerts, though they'd be visible within the tab. Post back if you find anything or contact customer service anytime:

Re: Name Change & Notifications

I am subscribed to ScoreWatch. I clicked where you mentioned and I went under the tab that said "Credit Alerts." The last alert I got was 7/21/2010. The only other two I received were on 12/29/10 regarding my student loans. I haven't gotten anything else.. I'm starting to feel like I'm paying for nothing as it's been almost a year since I've gotten anything from MyFico. My email is up to date because each week I get an email stating there has been no change to my Fico score. I recently got a Score Power report and my score has changed; it's gone up, however, my mortgage, name change & recent credit card inquiry is still not listed. I sent a dispute to Equifax regarding my name not being updated and it was completed and I received confirmation. In addition to the confirmation, I received a short version credit report. It shows where the  mortage company checked my credit in December and the credit card I applied for recently. I'm really confused as to why it's taking so long to be reflected with MyFico. I sent an email to them a while back and was told to just wait... so here I am still waiting.

Re: Name Change & Notifications

The short version of your credit does it show only the inquires? Also are you living at a different address after you were married?  Here is what you will need to do You will need to tell inform your creditors of your name change. They will report to the bureau your current and former name.  The bureaus do not search by SSN only.  When the creditors report you will thern have a credit file that has all your credit in it.

For the sake of discussion that you changed your name and address after marriage.  The bureauis cannot safely assume that the Jane Doe on Main Street and the Jane Smith on Pine street are the same person even though the first name SSN are the same.  There are too many possiblities that these two people might not be the same person.

If you have changed your address as well as your name when you apply for credit be sure to use your previius address when you apply.

Re: Name Change & Notifications

Hi zach0406,

From your 5/3 EQ report, it appears that there have been no new accounts since 10/2010 and no new mortgage or credit cards.  It also shows your previous last name.  You may want to check with EQ, as you may have a split file in which your newer credit under your new name is not combining with your older file.  There's nothing myFICO can do about this, unfortunately, because we can only provide you with what EQ provides to myFICO.

If you hear from EQ, let us know how you make out.  Good luck!

-Barry
