Score Watch and Score Power discrepancy...can anyone explain???

Okay, so I get a score watch alert in my inbox today stating that there was a change and my Equifax scored increased 14 points to 584.  Groovy.

Considering that there are still at least four accounts that are either completely inaccurate or have incorrect dates associated with them, this bodes well for me.  So I decide to immediately pull a new Score Power report so I can verify all the information on my CR now.

The Score Power report comes back with a credit score of 571, thirteen points lower than what score watch JUST told me my score was.  WHAT THE HECK CHANGED IN 2 MINUTES?????

near as I can tell, the same account updates the alert told me about were on the report (though National City is STILL wrong, but at least appears a little better).  Why are the scores so different?  Is the scoring system THAT screwed up????

Can anyone explain?  I'm beginning to lose what little of my shattered faith I had left in this rotten system we call credit scoring.

Look at the dates on both score watch and score power. They might be different. I doubt there was a change in 2 minutes. I use score watch, but don't use score power. I just pull my credit report separately. If they have the same date on them call customer service and ask. I have not seen that before.

It's quite possible the alert from Score Watch was from a day or so previous, and the score from the report reflects something new that happened since THAT event, not the alert itself. You may likely get another alert showing the drop.

Re: Score Watch and Score Power discrepancy...can anyone explain???

Okay, so maybe..MAYBE...there was an overlap and the timing was just off.

Another look at this shows that two of my accounts changed in to read "customer disputes":  Option One because they have incorrectly reported lates showing, and HFC because they still show a balance and past due, though they have been paid off for two years now.

Is it possible this REMOVED from the scoring an older account and a year of good payment history (option one) until the dispute is resolved?  Could the fact that it's showing up as "disputed" alone harm the score in some twisted way?

And why is it that Equifax seems the most chronically incorrect of all my reports, and seems to be the most obtuse when it comes to resolving problems?

OP:

There can be a 1-2 day period between the change occurring on the file and the alert going out.  So, yes, anytime you're pulling a new score after receiving an alert, it's going to be at least a day later.

Remember,  there can be a 7-10 day delay for a score change when there are no other alert-generating changes.

For me, that describes EX.  TU is great and quick, EQ is reasonable and moderately pace.
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Re: Score Watch and Score Power discrepancy...can anyone explain???

Just goes to show, I guess, how unusual this credit reporting stuff is.

I took another look and my TU turns out to be the most correct.  Still a couple minor issues, but nothing earth-shattering.  A couple incorrectly reported lates on two installments, that's it.
SCORE -- 602

Experian has one collection showing up as an open trade line, and one charged off, closed account showing as an open trade line for the same debt.  Seems that's a duplication.  The second item I think should be a closed account (Current status is "account transferred to another office" and balance is "not on record"....maybe this is actually helping me???), and the CA I don't think is supposed to report as a trade line; they should be listed as a collection account.  Oddly, EX is my highest score despite having what would seem to be more bad info on it than TU.
SCORE - 616

Equifax, however, is a mess (and not suprisingly, my lowest score).  There is a major collection showing up as an open trade line (killing my utilizations right now).  My understanding is that CA's are not supposed to report as a tradeline, but rather as a collection account.  There are two prior cards listed as past due 120+ days that are both paid off and closed.  I have a National City also showing up with status of past due 120+ days and I settled on this one over a year ago.  Payment history on two installments is incorrect, and the account that has the CA listing as an open TL ALSO is listed itself with an open balance and past due status.  Every time I disput these items, they simply come back "verified" and that's it.  So I resorted to a very specific letter, with documents to proove, and copies of my other reports showing the discrepancies, and a copy of my FOUR prior requests to have them clear this up, via CMRRR.  We'll see where this one leads....
SCORE -- 571 (ick)

(as an aside, I just noticed that if you have the Suzi Ormon fico kit, it DOES include report numbers).

Re: Score Watch and Score Power discrepancy...can anyone explain???

Experian is my most accurate report. Transunion right behind. Equifax is tough to deal with on one TL I am disputing. Something came back yesterday that I know for certain could not be verified in its current form yet there it stands. Best to leave well enough alone. I don't think it hurts or helps as my scores until very recently are nearly identical. It would be nice if EQ would report the day of report for TL's rather than just the month. I won't continue any paid services with them in the future.

Re: Score Watch and Score Power discrepancy...can anyone explain???

I have some of the same problems and pay Equifax for the service of ScoreWatch and regularly update the ScorePower report as I am entering into a range I will be able to do something in the way of buying a car/house and financing my business. I have been self employed and have had almost no (2) 30day lates since a couple months after I got sober in 2001. About 3-4 weeks ago I applied for an SBA loan [ checking my score power in at 621 ] and before the loan was processed i received a score power alert that my score had dropped from 621 to 580 !! with a several days - since the "alerts" have been wrong more times than not I bought another ScorePower report and low and behold it showed the score to be 580. I immediatedly contacted the SBA lender intermediary and withdrew my application because once it was rejected I could not reapply for a year...,Further investigation into why my score dropped 41 points revealed NOTHING! nO CLUE! No inquiries! Lower balances! No late pmts - Nothing...Remember I said i have been on the brink of 'breakin' out and I monitor my reports extensively [ 2-3 or more times a month] so I have my full reports printed and saved -side by side one at 621 one at 580 the only difference between the two is on the lower score - a collection agency from my hospital visit -(the one that got me sober in 2001) dropped off my report due to age. To make a long story short - pass the word -its time for class-action litigation against Equifax if they don't report properly the paid subscription to FICO score - I am now not self employed and have to deal with closing a business because I prematurely [relying on Equifax] withdrew a working capital loan application.

Re: Score Watch and Score Power discrepancy...can anyone explain???

I have now had this happen twice in the past couple of months...and no one in customer service nor tech support can seem to explain the reason. In both instances I received an alert that my score had jumped a fairly substantial amount (over 60 points in one case and over 70 in the other). Yet when I went to pull the score for that day (at $11 a pop) I find that not only did it not jump, but it was lower than it was before.

I don't want to sound skeptical...but my inner voice is starting to whisper "bait and switch" at me...

What gives??
