Hi honeybrook1, I checked my notes and didn't see what address I orignally used, so it was probably the one from our monthly statement which is: SHELL CARD CENTER P.O. Box 689151 Des Moines, IA 50368-9151 However, I did have note a of FAX number which was 866-533-8581 and I think I FAX'ed a copy as well. This was all followed up with a GW call. Shell was pretty easy-going and they've got my business because they were very decent and understanding, whereas some like GEMB/JC Penny's are highly resistant to acting like humans. Good luck! Hi isisblue, A note on the medical...are they collection accounts? Please don't make the mistake we did and offer to "pay them in full" without getting some assurance (in writing...) that they will be purged from your credit report. After paying medical collections to Merchants and Professionals; NCO Financial; and West Asset Management, only M&P would send us a letter saying the items should be deleted from the credit reports. I'd ask Tuscani or Noah Brodie for some recommendations on how to negotiate this sort of thing. Sometimes in credit repair, doing the "right thing" can get you punished. Good luck! FICOnater2007

Not only did the collection get removed, also the other items that EQ (CSC here in Texas...) has dragged their heels on which included updates to SHELL/Citi; GEMB/Dillard's, and DSRM/Valero. Check this out: Before (8/27/2007): My Equifax FICO 627 Wife's Equifax FICO 630 After (8/28/2007): Yes, the NEXT DAY! My Equifax FICO 707 Wife's Equifax FICO 697 When I pulled our scores this morning, I almost had a heart-attack! In fact, as of today EQ is the highest of my three FICOs. That's a good question and could be useful! Suppose you closed out a CC account; later sent GW letters and they removed the baddies... One could ask them to re-open the account and BAM -- instant good credit??? Tuscani, have you ever seen this happen? Good luck! FICOnater2007

Hi Tuscani, Yes, CSC holds the file and they are the problem... The last time I disputed this account (and 2-3 others which I have *documentation* from creditors in my favor...) the kind folks at CSC removed an unrelated GOOD account which was a car loan from 1999 that is paid-in-full, had ZERO lates, and was a solid plus on my credit report. I guess they think they can "school" folks for disputing by deleting GOODIES and leaving the BADDIES that should be removed. So today I called both Equifax and their little brother CSC. Initially I wasn't able to get much help until I threatened to file suit with the state attorney general's office under violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. BTW, I made sure to read Equifax's statement on the FCRA over the phone to these folks; along with my notes of dates, times, people, actions, resolutions that I have kept along the way. In addition, I am going to be in Atlanta on business in October, so I made sure to say that if I didn't get some response from a higher-level manager that I would be stopping by IN PERSON to visit Equifax and might be bringing some news media along with me. Now that I got their attention, I have been assured me that a manager (one from EQ and another from CSC) will call me back first thing on Monday morning. Fortunately I am self-employed and can WASTE an hour on the phone with these morons. I feel really bad for the lower-income people or those who work from dawn til dusk and can't "play the telephone shell-game" when on-line disputes go nowhere. Hello, I have a baddie on my report for a $520 collection (wife's medical expenses) which was paid in full to the collection agency Merchants and Professionals. The collection agency even sent me a letter stating this debt is: "[the debt] has been paid in full. This account is an unreportable item & in the process of being deleted from the credit file." While EX and TU quickly removed this, EQUIFAX has investigated and still just says "we have verified that item has been paid..." This is after I have disputed it and FAXed the letter from the collection agency to them TWICE, and they seem to be playing dumb. Now that the creditor has stated it is NON-REPORTABLE and EQ has ignored this, should I move up the chain of command there and demand my rights under the FCRA? Don't they have only 30 days to remove innaccurate information? There are two other baddies which have been "purged" by the creditors and already updated by EX and TU -- still only EQ ignores the hard copy paperwork that I have FAXed on these items as well. Hi Bren, In fact my wife consolidated her loans several years ago. However at the time they were broken down into 4-5 separate loans so the "lates" for that month equal FIVE lates against the FICO score. Still, good luck with your GW letter. I may try a hardcopy letter as well. FICOnater2007

This discussion came up a while back as well. With Wells Fargo Bank, I have TWO separate business accounts (totalling 2 checking accounts, 3 savings accounts, a mastercard, and 2 platinum visa debit cards....) and they WILL STILL RUN A CREDIT CHECK for me to open another account! Proof positive that my old motto (from when I worked for an Internet banking company) was correct: "Bank is a four-letter word, ending with a 'K'...!" FICOnater2007

The account is still showing on my wife's CR (all three...TU, EX, EQ...) but we are disputing it and hoping to get it removed. They seemed pretty easy to work with, so I'll probably call back and ask for the same person if the dispute process through the CRA's fails. Hello all (particularly Tuscani), I did a search for Sallie Mae and found a thread where Tuscani got some lates removed by these clowns despite the "Higher Education Act". However, he had some "forebearance" thing going on and thus had a mitigating circumstance. Has ANYONE else had any luck getting lates removed from these guys? And what is the gist of the Higher Education Act...must mean the "school of hard knocks" if you have any lates! My wife has one (1) 90-day late in August of 2004...funny it shows ALL other payments before and after as being on time. It would be nice if they would cut us a break, but I made a GW call already and got the brush off...perhaps now a GW letter? Thanks in advance for info, FICOnater2007

Hello all, Over the past month or so I've sent some GW letters and made some GW calls to various folks who had some baddies listed on my CR. Here is a rundown of the level of friendliness I encountered and the successes, I hope they help you: AMERICAN HONDA FINANCE - Very friendly and easy to work with. I called these folks on the phone and the first guy I spoke to said I could only get one of the three lates removed (each was a 30-day back in 2004). I explained that my wife and I were lifelong Honda owners and in fact counting our two current Hondas we've owned a total of 6. He said he would make a request to mgmt and call us back. They didn't call back, so the next day I called them again. I got another rep (also very nice) and she forwarded me to a manager who said they'd review it and would really call us back this time. The next day they did --- and said all three lates were being removed. Friendliness Service and Responsiveness Easy to Contact CHEVRON GAS - Called these nice folks on 7/25/07 and spoke to Elvia. Very understanding and friendly to be sure. They said they'd be happy to help and would notify the three CRA's immediately. Friendliness Service and Responsiveness Easy to Contact CITI / CITGO GAS - I sent these guys a letter on 7/5/07. We just got a reply back in the mail on 8/3/07 saying that it had been acccepted and processed. Friendliness Service and Responsiveness Easy to Contact CITI / SHELL GAS - I sent these guys a letter on 7/5/07 and made a follow-up call on 7/25/07. They were quite prompt and said the GW letter had already been acccepted and processed. Friendliness Service and Responsiveness Easy to Contact GEMB/DILLARD'S - I called these folks. It was difficult to get in touch with the right person and I ended up speaking to five different people over a two-day period. All but one was friendly and helpful. They purged the negative notation from my account. Friendliness Service and Responsiveness Easy to Contact GEMB/JC Penny's - I made a phone call to these guys which was good...because it saved me from wasting my money on a postage stamp! They were real class 'A' JERKS, especially when I politely asked for a manager and got "Brent". Brent was too busy painting his toenails and acting like a snooty French maitre' d than being even remotely interested in saying anything other than "we cannot manipulate credit data - it's illegal". In fact, I think he uttered that phrase at least three times... Friendliness Service and Responsiveness Easy to Contact CONCLUSION - Essentially the process of sending a GW letter and/or making a GW call (or follow-up call) is well worth it. Only one out of six were vehemently opposed to being helpful, and I was surprised that several of them were QUITE easy to reach on the phone. A few things that seemed to help were: Asking to have only 3 or less lates to be removed. If you actually have more than this on your account you're not in a good position to ask for leniency. It helps if the lates were more than a year ago, or related to an account that was closed more than a year ago. Being friendly (I was raised to say "yes sir, no sir" , etc...) it really made a difference! Patience was a must, as was having some ample time to sit on hold for a couple of the companies. Using leverage such as "I've owned XX of your cars" or "yes I owed $$ but as you see I paid it off when I discovered the debt" or even "I'd really appreciate you helping us to get a fresh start and since there were only XX lates, and they were never more than 30-days..." Of course, being truthful, honest and sincere carries weight. You'll find some of the people on the phone can SYMPATHIZE because they are in similar situations. MOST IMPORTANTLY ask for a manager but do it nicely! Some of the reps don't seem to have the authority to help, but are glad to have the buck passed to their bosses. An update, I called the people at FreeCreditReport.com and complained about the differences between the ACTUAL FICO scores and the garbage scores they gave me. Supposaidly a "trouble ticket" was issued by a rep named "Cindy" and someone was supposed to call me back in 24 hours -- that was Monday 7/30/07. After three days and no calls, I called them back on Thursday 8/2/07 and proceeded to "kick some tail". I griped and complained about not getting a call back and about the inaccuracy of their scores; but I was polite and did not curse (not that I wasn't tempted...!) . My main argument was not the TU and EQ scores -- but the EXPERIAN score since FreeCreditReport.com represents themselves as EX. You can read my earlier post showing the EX score from them was off on both mine and my wife's CR's. Well, the chuckle-head I got on the phone, possessing only a partial command of the English language, wanted me to log onto their website and file a dispute on my CR. I told her I didn't need to dispute anything except the pitiful service and score they provided from their own parent company. This discussion went nowhere so I gave her as much grief as possible and then asked for a manager. Once the manager answered, I decided to go ahead and just CANCEL my wife's and my own "Triple Advantage" service which was $12.95/mo times the two of us because I found their customer service to be "disgraceful, deplorable, unnacceptable and unprofessional". I had been on Triple Advantage since April, and my wife since June. The manager had no excuse for why the FCR.com version of the EX report was different from that of their parent company. She just said, "well each CRA using a different scoring model..." My reply: "Hmm.., but you guys ARE EXPERIAN, so how can you blame it on differences in scoring?" She couldn't really answer this question so I insisted they give us a refund. I ended up getting a total of $51.80 back, which amounts to basically 4 months of service. While I am normally an easy going person, I must say that I really enjoyed giving them a piece of my mind -- and have since started purchasing my report from MyFICO.com . I would not recommend FCR.com to anyone. Their customer service is lacking and their versions of the scores from the big three CRA's are totally bogus. FICOnater2007

Absolutely! We had a similar situation on my wife's Civic and I actually called these folks on the phone. They were very friendly and promptly took care of it. In our case, this car loan was showing as an "Adverse Account" on our TU credit report, and there were only three lates (30-days each) dating back to the fall of 2004. A couple of things in our favor: My wife's car is about 4 payments away from being paid off --- I used this as leverage. My car (a 2005 Civic financed through them also) had no late payment on record -- and I used this as leverage too! Good luck my friend! FICOnater2007 P.S. Hi Tuscani, I managed to locate some information on the web about this. The info came from www.bad-credit-advisor.com/hawk-alert.html . Apparently, the Fraud Alert is part of the normal check they do on a CR. In regards to the term "Hawk Alert" which came from Transunion, it said there are three possible annotations: "AVAILABLE AND CLEAR" means no fraudulent activity has been found, sometimes same message can be read as - your application processing will continue. "INPUT SSN USED IN DEATH BENEFITS ..." - that means someone used Social Security Number belonged to a deceased person. "... ADDRESS IS COMMERCIAL" means that non-residential address was used. Also where it said "SPELLING OF INPUT NAME DID NOT MATCH OFAC LIST" means that our names did not appear on the fraud list...so we're good all the way around! On the CR my mortgage broker pulled today, it listed a "Fraud Alert". What does that mean? Is it going to screw my chances of getting a loan? Today we had our credit report pulled by a mortgage broker (quite a nice chap!) in the process of getting pre-approval on a home loan. The report they pulled had different numbers than those my wife and I have been getting from www.FreeCreditReport.com . Okay, so here are the results of my scores: Free Credit Report Scores (as of 7/22/07): EX - 696 EQ - 631 TU - 685 Actual Credit Report Scores (as of 7/27/07): EX - 684 (listed as FAIR ISSAC SCORE 2) ----> 12 points lower! EQ - 629 (listed as BEACON 5.0 SCORE) ----> 2 points lower! TU - 669 (listed as CLASSIC SCORE) ----> 16 points lower! And my wife's scores: Free Credit Report Scores (as of 7/27/07): EX - 656 EQ - 639 TU - 656 Actual Credit Report Scores (as of 7/27/07): EX - 630 (listed as FAIR ISSAC SCORE 2) ----> 26 points lower! EQ - 622 (listed as BEACON 5.0 SCORE) ----> 17 points lower! TU - 657 (listed as CLASSIC SCORE) ----> 1 point higher?! Why? Why? Why are they different?!! Granted, the tri-merge I ran on myself was 5-days ago, but my wife's numbers I ran THIS MORNING. This morning I called TU to dispute a few items on mine and my wife's CR's. In general I feel TU is probably one of the easiest to dispute with. Here is my list of TU's pros and cons: PROS: 1) Easy to navigate phone system (only 1-2 steps to get an agent). 2) Quick response - got an agent within 3 minutes or less each time. 3) The agents are generally pretty friendly. CONS: 1) Agents sometimes speak to quickly or not understandable (call center is in India...). 2) The agents are quick to "pigeon-hole" your dispute into a certain (sometimes innaccurate) category; when another category would be more suitable. So far, my experience with them has been favorable with the exception of one item which they investigated under an inaccurate category and I had to dispute it again. Their website dispute process, by the way, is also not bad. FICOnater2007
