@Anonymouswrote:I'm a member of the no CLI club with AMEX. Tried at 61 days and then 90 days and then again (they actually let me without the usual letter that I was denied within last 90 days). Doesn't apply to everyone. Just keep doing you and eventually you will be rewarded. As a side, while they have not given me a CLI all this time, they did approve a 2nd revolver at 2K...
TL;DR: After almost over a year, I finally went from 11K to 31K on Delta Gold.
As of today, 3/6/18, I am NO longer a member of the no CLI club! My one year is 3/24. That day I was instantly approved for BCE at 10K and PRG. No CLIs last year. I tried no balance as well as carrying a balance to see if that made a difference. Carring a balance DID make a difference, they balance chased me from 10K to 3700. I paid it off and my balance was restored a few days later. In this time AMEX approved: 2K on EDP, 2K on Delta Gold, 35K POT on PRG and 2300 on Everyday. This last recent approval gave me hope I was no longer in the 2K bucket.
I am culling cards so I started by closing out PRG this morning. I then tried for 3X on Delta Gold. I had moved some CLs around and Delta was now at 11K and BCE at 1K. (Also, I was only recently able to start moving CLs around). I was asked for Income Verification (IV) at 33K and 32K. At 31K my CLI was instantly approved. I have no problems providing IV but after a year of trying for a CLI I wanted the instant gratification. I imagine that even if do respond to the two letters I will be receiving for verification I am no longer eligible since I just received a CLI, correct? I then cancelled EDP so I now only have 3 AMEX cards to manage. I learned long ago that our experiences will be different and not to expect the same things as our fellow members. I wanted to share my ups and downs in my first year with AMEX so maybe it will help others as they continue in their own journey to stay the course.
Just looking for advice on whether I should attempt a CLI.
I've only had my BCP for 14 months and didn't try the 60 day 3x because I had a balance. I started with a CL of $15K and AmEx increased it twice in the first 9 months to 19.5K without asking. I charged just under $30K on the card over the last 14 months and always carried a balance. I usually paid $750 to $1000 a month, but I made a $10K final payment to bring my balance to $0.
Reading through this guide, I'm guessing I will get denied for too low of payments (relative to balance)? Should I wait a few months and use the card lightly and pay in full each month?
Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

You'll get a CLI with that kind of history/usage the question is how much of one are you looking to get. Are we talking the full 3X to $58.5k or somewhere more reasonable in the $30k-$35k range. Personally, if you don't mind backing out to resubmit your request I would shoot as high as you're comfortable with and if IV/POI pop up back out one page lower the amount and resubmit til you get an approval.

I would go for it, check out Post 3845 page 385.
I had a balance of 1700 on a 4K CL for four months without pay it down until the week before my CLI request, and got approved.
You just got to know what kind of limit you want and if you want to submit the IV. Spending that much, and paying it off, I’m sure they’ll geve you at least 2x...
report back for us will ya? 🙂
You should be golden for a CLI but maybe not a 3x one. Try the back button til you get an approval method like others have mentioned.
What I myself would be tempted to do is app for a new card, move some new CL to the existing card to get the new one in a position to get a 3x CLI in 61 days.
Finally got my first 3X cli.
Applied for SPG upgrade to $3000 - success!
Applied also for Delta, Hilton Surpass to $3000 - Fail (again).
It gives me hope for the other cards. Funny thing is the SPG is one I got back in December. I have had the Delta since August and Hilton since October.

Can only get one CLI from your entire AMEX account (this includes all cards) which is why your CLI requests for the Delta and Hilton cards didn't get approved since the SPG received one first. Will have to wait 181 days from CLI approval date before you can ask for one again.
Oh ok. so 181 days, should I try to get a CLI for the Delta/Hilton or just keep working the SPG since that got the first ever cli for any of my amex cards?

That depends on whichever card you want to keep long-term whether that's the Delta, Hilton, or SPG.
