AMEX CLI With No Inquiry?

I recently requested and received a CLI from AMEX on my Blue card. Since then, I have pulled Experian and Equifax reports and there are no hard inquiries on either.

I know AMEX usually pulls Experian, and I did see a soft inquiry on the date I asked for a CLI, but there is no inquiry. Is there still a chance that an inquiry will show up?

FYI -- The CLI was approved instantaneously and occurred about 22 days ago.

Re: AMEX CLI With No Inquiry?

If it was instantaneous and you didn't fill out a form, it was a soft.

If there's no hard 22 days later (or a day later, for that matter), it was a soft.

All signs point to you getting away scott free.

Amex doesn't currently have a form request CLI.

Just because an INQ doesn't show up a day later does not necessarily mean that it won't.  It is typically almost real time but there is no guarantee.

OP- the CLI from Amex should not result in HP if it didn't show up within the first few days.  The SP you spotted on the day of your request also indicates that you are in the clear.

Isn't Amex CLI  usually soft pull only?

Re: AMEX CLI With No Inquiry?

Even applying for a new card with AMEX is usually a soft pull if youre already a member, so I'd be surprised if CLIs weren't as well.

You're tempting me to go ask for a CLI

Do they have a button, or do you have to call?  I've gone 2 years without an auto CLI and all my other cards have moved on up to higher limits.  I'd like to increase my 2k limit with AMEX, but I guess I'm not eligible?  I didn't see a link anywhere, and I searched the site pretty good.

Yes.

As far as a new amex app for current member being soft pull, not IME (unless it is an instant denial) but YMMV.

Re: AMEX CLI With No Inquiry?

Recently more than doubled CL by calling, so you can always make your request that way.

Mmmm, I have to disagree on this one. I applied for a second card and got a hard inq (EX only, in this case, as was the original card.) But my CLI was a soft.

The advantage in getting additional cards with AMEX is that they back-date the new ones to the opening year of the original, so they show up looking older and you don't get the new account ding.

There might be some lucky souls getting additional cards without a hard, but I don't remember one, right off the top of my head. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, of course.

Re: AMEX CLI With No Inquiry?

Am I to conclude that neither a CLI button push nor a call for a CLI will result in a hard inquiry?

DW has an Amex card, whose original hard inquiry is half a year ago today, so maybe it's safe to try tomorrow?

(Her CLI button has been up there for a while though.)

My experience with Amex was the same as yours. I apped for a Blue in Dec 06 and a Gold in April 07, both resulted in multiple hards on EX and EQ.
