Are they BK friendly?

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Seems they ARE bk friendly, if the bk is older. I have coveted a Kohl's card for 3 years, and was denied two years ago and again last October (FICOs were lower back then). I just app'd again this week, and lo-and-behold...instant approval online for a $600 cl! I'm SO looking forward to those coupons! Smiley Wink

My bk was discharged 5/2001, so it's about 8 1/2 years old...in reviewing other Kohl's approved/denied posts, it seems more got denied than approved with a history of bk. Maybe the combo of aged bk and 680+ scores is what did the trick for me? Who knows. FYI, my accounts IIB were: Cap1, Citi, MNBA, First Premier, Ford Motor Credit, and Providian. In my rebuilding, I have been able to get cards again with Cap1, First Premier, and BOA (MNBA) via a secured card. I have NOT been able to get in with Wamu (Providian), and have not bothered with Ford. I'm too scared to try with Citi just yet...maybe when the bk falls off my reports in 2011.

Anywho...the Kohl's approval set off an appy spree for me (sigh). Getting the "Congratulations! You're Approved!" message just feels so good! So here are the results, in the order that I app'd:

Alliant CU Platinum Visa - pending, waiting to hear from CSR (crossing fingers on this one!)

Kohl's (Chase) - approved $600 cl

Belk (GEMB) - approved $400 cl

Kay Jeweler (Sterling) - approved $1900 cl

New York & Company (WFNNB) - don't know yet, got 7-10 day message (love this store! though I've been reading some not-so-nice things about WFNNB here on the boards...)

And DH was approved for Home Depot (Citi)!!!! Only a $500 cl, but we actually got back in with Citi after IIB...I can't believe it!!!!! I'm not sure if it's because the accounts are no longer on our cr's, or because of the amount of time that has passed.

Edited for clarity and to correct grammatical error.

Re: APPROVED!!! Kohl's...

Congrats Soccermom!  You scored!!!

Glad to hear that about Kohl's - they're on my wishing and waiting list.

Let us know what you hear from Alliant - DH likes his card with them!

Good luck with NY&Co. - great sales and coupons to go with that nifty store.

You've got some lovely new cards there - remember to keep one eyeball peeled on your AAofA Smiley Wink.  (I'm watching mine recover after app spree......)

NIce job recovering from bk - you go girl!

Re: APPROVED!!! Kohl's...

Welcome to the Kohl's club.  I just got one a week or so ago.  I've gotten so many emails about 10-20% off.  There's always some sale going on.  I was a little afraid to app in store, just don't wanna be declined in front of a bunch of people.  I only got $400 CL, but I'll take it!  I'll just buy some cut little decarations for the dining room or something until I get an increase.

Re: APPROVED!!! Kohl's...

Thanks for the congrats! I'm pretty happy about getting the Kohl's card after all these years of trying...got my $5 coupon emailed to me, so will be doing a little Christmas shopping there soon. Smiley Happy

I know what you mean about apping in-store. I can't bring myself to do it for fear of being declined in public.  I ALWAYS app online.

Looks like it's a no-go on Alliant. I spoke with a loan officer today and he said declined due to bk, and recently opened cc's with NFCU which makes it look like I'm accumulating too much debt. I pointed out bk was almost 9 years ago, stated I'm just trying to establish relationships with CU's to rebuild my credit, and pointed out that all my other smaller cl cc's were BT to the NFCU cards, so all those have zero balances even though they may not have all reported as such yet. He said I can plead my case with the loan officer that worked my file (who I've already called 4 times but goes to voicemail every time!)...ugh. Not sure if I'll call again; I may just let that one go. At least I'm in with NFCU, and they gave me LOTS of love. I'll just baby that relationship for now.

Still haven't heard back on the New York & Co. card...I really, really want that one to add to my collection. And then I'm done. I mean it. Oh wait - unless I do get in with WFNNB. Then I might just have to app for Ann Taylor. But then I'll really be done. Really.

It appears as though there is just no hard, fast rule.  I just called the Chase Recon number and was told that any BK showing on the CR was an automatic decline.

Starting Score: 527
Current Score: 679
Goal Score: 800

That answer would apply to Chase app's. Not too sure it would apply to Kohl's app's though.

I thought the Chase Recon # was also the the one for Kohls.  The agent and I were discussing Kohls, so now I'm just confused......is there another number for Kohls Recons?
